The next day, Sarah and Tilly were stood at their lockers, which were coincidentally next to each other. Truly coincidental.
As they spoke mindlessly about the lessons ahead, Tilly glanced across the hallway and found her eyes landing on a certain blue–eyed boy. Nudging Sarah, the two girls watched as he walked around the student body warily, with a piece of paper clutched in hand.
They could see him looking around madly at the lockers that lined the walls, with furrowed brows, before finally walking up to a locker and fiddling with the lock. The girls could visibly see his frustration and they felt bad for him. It wasn't easy being new. Tilly had the upper hand because she had already been here prior to her move so she knew the layout. But Jonathan didn't have a clue. Sarah and Tilly locked eyes, giving each other a knowing look before slamming their lockers shut and making their move towards him.
"Hey, you confused already?" Sarah greeted from behind him. He seemed slightly startled by the new presence but quickly recognised Sarah's voice and turned around to face them, with a bashful smile.
"Oh hey" he greeted back before beginning to stutter out his response to the question she posed, "um, yeah, actually I'm a little lost" he admitted, his eyes scanning the bussing hallway.
Tilly found herself smirking at his uncertain state, finding it a little endearing, "okay, where do you need to go, JJ?"
Sarah swiftly raised a brow at Tilly, the sound of the new nickname for the boy ringing through her ears. For a moment, Jonathan got distracted by the nickname, still not really liking it too much. He then realised he hadn't answered her question that she had asked along with the nickname she had chosen.
"World history, portable three?" he spoke in a questioning tone.
"Oh, it's outside" Sarah answered him quickly, knowing that both her and Tilly were headed that direction anyway.
"We'll show you, don't you worry" Tilly spoke, starting to walk away to lead the way.
Sarah held her books close to her chest as she spoke up, asking the question that has been plaguing her mind since she saw the lone Kent brother. "No Jordan today?"
Tilly let out an almost inaudible scoff at her best friend's question. This girl wasn't exactly subtle. Of course they had spent a few years apart but it felt like they had fallen right back into step with each other, as if nothing happened. And because Tilly knew her friend so well, she could see her feelings as if they were written across Sarah's forehead. So, she knew that no matter what was going on with the dickhead she called her boyfriend, Sarah did have some feelings or at least some affection towards Jordan.
The blonde didn't exactly want to insert herself into her friend's life and take over but she knew that Jordan and Sarah would be a far better match than Sarah with Sean. Maybe she should make some sly comments here and there. Or maybe something less subtle. The guy did grab her throat the previous night after all.
She was able to come back down to Earth, putting the thoughts to the back of her mind for the time being in order to hear Jon's reply, "um, he's not feeling too good"
"Right" Tilly trailed off with a raise of her brow at the boy's response. Why did that sound like a lie?
"Oh" Sarah looked down to the ground, looking saddened – confirming Tilly's already solid assumptions about her feelings towards the curly haired boy.
Unfortunately for the trio, their conversation got swiftly interrupted by Sean and his minion followers approaching. As soon as she noticed, Sarah's face changed from disappointment to something resembling fear or at least nervousness. But it wasn't even for herself. It was for Jonathan. Tilly didn't show it on the outside but she was also concerned for the outcome of the incoming situation. Who knew what Sean was actually capable of now.
