chapter four
━━━ awkward...✩₊˚.🌷・⋆⁺₊✧
𝐓𝐇𝐄 𝐑𝐈𝐃𝐄 𝐁𝐀𝐂𝐊 to auradon was awkward for everyone in the car. fayebelle was berating herself in the car while mal and ben had been arguing, causing the air to become tense and suffocating for everyone in the car.
"i'm really sorry that things didn't go the way you wanted them to." ben was the first to break the awkward silence and turned to mal.
"i mean, as long as you're safe, that's..."
even though mal had ran to the isle and caused this whole mess, there was no doubt she still didn't care for ben. fayebelle didn't know if mal considered it love, but she did. because there was now way you would sacrifice everything for a man you didn't love, and that in itself was a scary thought.
"well, i mean, at least i got to see the isle. they're my people, too. uma helped me see that."
"ben, uma captured you." mal looked exasperated and carlos and fayebelle had shared a sideways glance at each other, trying to look anywhere but the arguing couple."she's an angry girl with a bad plan. that's not so different from you when you came to auradon, mal."
"oh my fairy godmother he did not," fayebelle thought, feeling the air get more and more restricting. for a moment, she almost considered jumping out of the car and into the murky waters below. it seemed like a better fate then listening to what was happening in the car.
maybe it really wasn't love, and fayebelle just had a misconstrued idea from all the books she had read. or maybe it was just an argument, surely they were bound to have some in their relationship. it wasn't like this one argument was going to stop mal from becoming a lady of the court and cause him to fall in love with someone else leaving mal alone on the boat during cotillion.. right?
faye had almost crawled out of the car trying to get relief from the awkward tension. she was going to head back to her room to get a much needed cup of tea and a book to drown out her thoughts when evie had begun to pull her away with mal.
"we need to talk," the bluenette had said, grabbing both mal's and fayebelle's arms. mal let out a sigh of compliance.
"no."
"no?" evie had asked, giving carlos a slight glare.
"no, you guys are always going off in a huddle, whispering your girl talk stuff or whatever, and jay and i are tired of it."
"i'm not." jay had raised his hand slightly to protest what carlos had said. it was obvious by his face that 'girl talk' was not in his vocabulary, nor did he want it to be. at this, fayebelle had given a sideways glance at jay and gone over to hit his shoulder with a playful glare."we're your family, too. we've been through a lot together. we're not stopping that now, okay? everyone, sit!" at carlos's words, the group had casted a sideways glance at eachother before sitting down, dude letting out a small bark.
"maybe i should go... this seems like a villain kid thing." fayebelle had started to back up almost to sprint when she was yanked by the arm and pulled down. the girl let out a small ouch and pout before letting carlos continue to talk.
"i don't know how to start girl talk.. what up?"
"uhm, well... i'm a mess. i'm such a mess. i mean, six months ago, i was, you know, stealing candy from babies, and now everybody wants me to be this lady of the court. and i have no idea how to keep up the act." mal's voice had broken while she was speaking and tears had begun to well up in her eyes.
on some level, fayebelle knew what mal was going through.
obviously, she had never been on the isle before today and therefore had never experienced leaving her whole life behind, but she knew what it was like to pretend to be someone she wasn't. if anything, fayebelle knew all too well that hiding yourself caused you to lose yourself, and she scolded herself for not seeing it sooner.
from the fake blonde hair to the pastel clothes she had adorned, in the past six months mal had become a shell of the person she was before she first came here, and as her friends, they should have noticed that.
"then don't."
"see? this was dumb." jay had started to stand up, and it was his turn to get yanked down with a sharp glare from fayebelle.
"maybe it wasn't. we're always gonna be the kids from the isle... i tried to forget it. i really tried, but those are our roots. and we all did what we had to do to survive. but it made us who we are. and we're never gonna be like anybody else here. and that's okay. that's okay."
faybelle really felt that this was supposed to be a private conversation, because she was most definitely not supposed to be included in this.
she heard a few more words passed between the group, some wise advice from carlos he would do good to follow and a few more witty comments that surely would've earned him a smack from fayebelle if she had been listening.
"i'm gonna make some changes to your dress. and if you're up for it-- only if you're up for it-- it will be waiting for you, okay?" a few more words were shared between the villain kids before the group had dispersed.
"and fayebelle."
the blonde had turned to evie with a small smile, only to be met with the scheming eyes of evie.
"i made you a dress. you're going to cotillion. be at my room in an hour." evie had winked, walking away and leaving fayebelle alone standing there.
the girl felt her stomach drop faster than when she had seen harry hook for the first time.
