chapter five
━━━ a boring cotillion? with the vk's? no way!✩₊˚.🌷・⋆⁺₊✧
𝐈𝐓 𝐖𝐀𝐒𝐍'𝐓 𝐓𝐇𝐀𝐓 fayebelle hated cotillions, it was that she hated the crowds. for one, she had been to more cotillions than countable. not only that, but around cotillion time the people had become more irritable than her father during summer.
whenever a cotillion rolled around, jealous princesses had their claws out for any mistake the future lady would make, news sources and channels would play nonstop coverage of the lady to be's failures, and anybody and everybody would be talking about how they didn't deserve their position.
and this wasn't just for mal. every cotillion brought toxicity thinly veiled by favoritism and was basically the last time anybody could say what they truly felt before the lady had been sworn in. fayebelle had seen it happen thousands of times over, it just so happened to be that mal was the unluckiest of the bunch.
but the cotillion itself was rather boring. everybody would show up in their fanciest dresses, dinner would be served, the lady would make a speech and be sworn in, then there would be some dancing before everyone eventually went home. they were all the same and all equally boring.
not that she wanted mal to think that. mal was already stressed out enough with what had happened on the isle, the last thing she needed was fayebelle whining about cotillion.
which is why when evie had told her, more like demanded, that she was going fayebelle sucked it up and didn't complain. she needed to be a shoulder of support for mal, now more than ever.
after the "girl talk" as carlos had called it, fayebelle had gone into her room to take a much needed shower and nap. she had not slept in almost 20 hours due to the rude awakening jay had bestowed on her, not that she was sleeping anyways, and reeked of saltwater and seaweed.
fayebelle always showered with scorching hot water, the warmth burning her skin and giving her a relief from the usual chill she had felt. the steam also provided a sauna like feeling and there was something so nice about feeling her skin burn.
when she had come out of the shower, her long hair had been drenched and the smell of seaweed had been replaced by a potent vanilla. she had taken too long of a shower and was due to be at evie's room in a little less than an hour, so her dreams of taking a nap had been squandered by the need to support her friend.
after drying her hair and doing her makeup, fayebelle had made her way to evies room.
when she opened the door, she didn't know what she had been expecting. the dress evie had made for her was sprawled out on the mannequin and it was gorgeous.
