Meet me at Midnight

Now that classes are canceled for the semester, you have to come visit me in San Francisco!

Wednesday never promised she would visit Enid over their impromptu break from school. After all, they quite literally lived 955 hours and 2,922 miles apart - not that she had googled it on her new cell phone or anything.

The fact, it took the ravenette so long to visit her roommate at her home that New Years Eve had nearly come and gone.

But when Enid had tweeted about the lack of a new years kiss after her and Ajax broke up a month prior, Wednesday couldnt jump on a plane any faster than she already had even though she was still grasping the concept of Twitter. After calculating the math in her head, she would have to board at approximately 7 oclock in order to be at her home in time for the clock to strike midnight. But it would be best to be at the airport by 6:30pm, and therefore she had to leave the house by 6 oclock.

Even with how tedious she was in her planning leading up to now, she shifted uncomfortably in her plane seat as she felt anxiety bubble in the pit of her stomach and rise to the point where her throat physically burned. Usually she would revel in such a sensation, but she was sure she would barf if this trip didnt pass by quickly.

Fortunately Wednesday was able to swallow down the sour bile and soon enough, she was in San Francisco. The only thing that really kept her distracted was listening to music with the black headphones that Enid had mailed to her house for Christmas. She was doubtful she would ever use the technology she despised so ravenously, but alas she found that it was useful for blocking out the incessant smooching between her parents and the annoying voices of children playing as she took her daily strolls.

After all, the only voice she wanted to hear at this very moment was that of her roommate, best friend, and crush, but she would certainly never admit the latter of the three.

She bit down on her lip until she drew blood as she scrolled through their text messages to find the address Enid sent so adamantly for her to visit at one point. Now she would take her up on that offer, but as a surprise. Consider it belated appreciation for the surprise party the blonde threw for her at Nevermore.

It all felt like a blur as Wednesday called herself a taxi and told the driver her destination, and before she knew it she was standing at her front doorstep.

But then she came to a realization: there was no guarantee that Enid would be the one to answer the door. In fact, her entire plan would go down the drain if anyone else did, especially her hellish mother who would surely hate crime her just for being queer. Normally the honors student would think of every possible outcome and situation, but it seemed the girl she was coming to see had clouded her mind with a lavender haze in a way she never thought was imaginable.

Fortunately Plan B was significantly less - or maybe even more - anxiety-inducing: texting Enid to come to the door. Perhaps it wouldnt be as much of a surprise as she initially intended, but at least she wouldnt be startled by potential homophobic presence.

Wednesday: Are you awake?

Enid: duh, its not even midnight yet! what r u doin for new years?

Wednesday: None of your concern. Come to your front door.

Instead of a text back, Wednesday heard footsteps on the other side of the door before the lock clicked and the door opened.

Enid gasped. "Wednesday, youre he-"

Wednesday took a deep breath in, exhaled as if it was the last time, and immediately pulled her outside by the collar of her shirt, their lips pressing together in a flurry of suppressed passion and a million words they wanted to say to each other for months but neither of them knew how to do so until now.

At this point, neither of them cared if any of the other Sinclairs saw; they were too enthralled with the gift of one another, and they swore there were nonexistent fireworks exploding between them. After all, there was little to no explanation for why they fit together like a lock and key the moment they touched - as if they were destined to meet and be together, as if soulmates had become reality the day they laid eyes on each other.

It had been a long ride leading up to this point, but they wouldnt trade it for the world.

Soon they parted, and it felt all too soon. Enids lips were a drug, and Wednesday was already addicted.

"Happy New Year, Sinclair." Wednesday whispered as their foreheads bumped together.

Enid broke out into the biggest smile the ravenette had ever seen from her roommate, which was saying something seeing as she was the embodiment of sunshine. Sure she could question how the hell Wednesday got to San Francisco so quickly, and right on time for the new year to begin, but she was far too elated to care.

Instead, she said, "Happy New Year, Wednesday."
