Esme working two jobs had started to mean a lot of late nights for them and a lot less time of them getting to spend any sort of time together outside of sleeping or going to school, which was more than a bit inconvenient for Juliette. She wanted to spend every second that she could around them, and although the money that they were making was very important, a small selfish part of herself really just wanted them to blow it off, but she'd never say that.
No, instead she'd taken up reading - she'd learned that if she read three chapters a night of a book, she'd often still be up when Esme got home. It hadn't worked the past two nights, but she'd made sure that her timing was right this time. And sure enough, just as she finished the last sentence on her page, the door creaked open, and Esme snuck into the room.
Right on schedule, just like clockwork.
"Hey sweetheart." Juliette said, shutting her book as Esme jumped a little, clearly startled by her voice as they placed a hand over their own heart, letting out a relieved sigh, like they were scared that they were under attack for a split second, which was humorous.
What murderer would be tucked into bed with a book saying 'hey sweetheart?' Seemed like an odd approach.
"Oh, I didn't know you'd still be up, I didn't mean to wake you." Esme sighed, looking into the mirror as they undid their tie, seeming tired beyond their years in that moment. Juliette shook her head, slipping out of bed to walk up behind them, wrapping an arm around the side of theirs as she tucked her face against their back.
She'd stayed up on purpose to wait for them to get home, plus it helped that she hadn't even felt tired to begin with. The idea of not getting to greet Esme after a night of having to work at the country club fucking killed her.
Their eyes looked tired, exhausted like existing had just started to take its toll on them, and all Juliette wanted to do was provide even the slightest bit of relief. They were working themself to the bone, didn't they deserve a little relaxation?
She took a little solace in the fact that since Little Man had finally calmed down a bit and had taken to sleeping splayed across the couch that they'd gotten solid sleep the night before, but it still wasn't enough. Plus she was sure that little demon was taking advantage of the fact that they left the door cracked right before going to sleep so that he could sneak in and out as he pleased.
Little bastard.
"You look exhausted, pretty girl." Juliette murmured, pressing kisses across the side of Esme's neck, making them let out a high sigh as they leaned their head back, bringing a hand up to cup the side of her head. She slid her arms around their waist, holding them to her gently, not pushing them to do anything more... She was more than content to simply kiss them, to make them feel loved after a rough night at a job that practically chewed them up and spat them out each and every time that they had to work it especially after school.
She didn't need anything from them, all she wanted was to give them love.
"I am, trust me." They sighed, turning around quickly to face her, cupping her face in their hands to press a lingering kiss to her forehead before pulling her tight against their chest. She smiled, slipping her arms around their waist as she tucked head against them... She liked when they held her like this, it made her feel whole in a way that nothing else could. "But you make it a thousand times better the second I see you." Juliette felt her heart flutter when she heard that, trying to shake her hands out as best she could... It always made her feel special when they talked to her like that, like she was the most important girl in the whole entire world.
