I drove to dad's while Brent cleaned up the house.

If the front door swung, either way, it would have been broken down.

However, it slides into the wall when opened and is one slab of steel reinforced osage orange.

It can definitely take some serious impact.

It wasn't even damaged from the log that was used to try and break it down.

Arriving, I saw that dad was sitting out front.

I parked the car and got out.

"Dad! We were just attacked by a group of about thirty people.

Brent thinks that they might have microchipped him." I said.

"Brent? Oh! Okay!" He said, going inside.

He came back out with a handheld radio.

"These can transmit all the way to the city and, here." He handed me the radio and another device that resembled it.

"This is a radio frequency detector.

Call me on that radio if it there is a sustained tone or if there is a rhythmic tone.

No tone, no chip." He said.

I hugged him.

"Thank you, dad."

"You're welcome, Slinky." He said.

I smiled as I ran back to the car.

When I arrived home, the six whom I'd shot, were lined up and bound with paracord.

One was awake and crying.

"What's his deal?" I asked.

"He says that he was made to come here.

He swears up and down that he didn't want to even be here.

Wanted no part in this whole mess." Brent said.

"Where was he?" I asked.

"On top of the bunker by the iris door."

"Oh, the one I shot in the knee.

He didn't seem to want to be part of this, honestly, but I'd rather have a telepath look into it, unless he dies first." I said.

"I've already stopped the bleeding and removed the bullet." Brent said.

"How? Were you a doctor?" I asked.

"No. I was an emergency first aid tech at a hunting lodge for three years."

"Oh. I guess humans are repetitively self destructive..."

"Hey, now..." He said.

"Anyway. I need to check you over." I said.

I used the RF detector and, when I got to his right leg, at mid-thigh, it beeped.

I walked outside.

"Dad." I called on the radio.

"Yes?"

"Right thigh. It beeped."

"Alright, I'll be right there with Lysle." He said.

"Warn him to expect dead bodies and parts, as well as six survivors and, please, bring a telepath.

We think one might be innocent in all of this." I said.

"Got it. I'll be there, with Lysle, in a minute..." He repeated.

They appeared about a minute later and Lysle hugged me when he saw me.
