Chapter 2

We pulled up to school with five minutes to spare, so the three of us (Lock, Jamie and I), grabbed the campus maps and timetables out of our bags so that we could find our way to our form rooms. Luckily for me, Lock and I were both in the same form, so had the same form room, so we both said goodbye to Jamie and went on the trek to find where we needed to go.

"What is your day like today?" I asked Lock.

"I have a free period first, yay, then Maths, break, double physics, lunch, registration, business studies and finally ICT. What about you?"

"I have Music, Maths, break, Design Technology, free, lunch, registration, English Literature & Language then another free."

"Ok, so we have break, lunch and registration to meet up and check in on how things are. Now if anyone bothers you today, you tell me, got it?"

"Yes, Sir," I replied, saluting him.

"Oh, remember I have rugby after school today, so just hope that I get into the team."

"You will! You were best player at our last school."

"That's because they didn't have a rugby team, genius, only the american sports, you know that."

"Well then that makes you the best by default! Anyways, you were good at American football, what's the difference?"

"Lots." Lock stated, raising his eyebrow at me, as we continued to roam the halls in search of our class.

"Hey, dude, do you know where room G29 is?" My brother asked a passing boy, probably a Lower Sixth former in the hallway.

"Uh, yeah, it's just down this corridor and to the left."

"Thanks, man, much appreciated." We continue to walk down the hallway, then when we get to the end, turn left and carry on until we reach our new form room.

"Ready?" Lock asked me with his hand on the door knob.

"As I'll ever be." I sighed, then he pushed the door open and walked forward into the room.

Opposite the door, on the other side of the classroom to the door was the teacher's desk and all the other desks were laid out to the right of the door, with two students per table. Our form tutor, Mr. Mitchell, who we had met a few days before when we had gone to look around the school, was stationed at the desk already, quietly working on his laptop, whilst the already present students talked and caught up amongst themselves.

Mr. Mitchell looked up at us as we walked in and smiled; he motioned to us to go and talk to him as the rest of the class was lazily filing through the door.

"Hi, Locki, Vanessa, welcome to the first day here, I know you will love it, even though you only have a year here. I have been told I have some forms to sign for you, seeing as though you are the only two people joining the Upper Sixth year group this year, have you got those with you?"

"Yes, Sir, I have both of ours." I say, as I rummage through my bag, looking for the papers the receptionist had emailed us to print off, the other day. Once I found them, I hold them our to Mr. Mitchell and he signs his name at the bottom of both sheets.

"Get all your teachers to sign these sheets, then hand them into the reception at the end of the day. I've been the form tutor for this lot since they were in year 7, so I know they will be friendly. At registration, I will give you advice on who to stick with and who to avoid," Mr. Mitchell said jokingly, giving us a small wink. "Go ahead and find yourselves some seats."

"Before we sit down, I usually don't respond to Vanessa, no one has called me that in a long time, so call me Key, I probably won't acknowledge you if you call me by Vanessa."

"Yes, that and everyone shortens my name to Lock, so that's my nickname." Locki states, and our form tutor just gives us a single nod and returns to his work.

We walked away and sat down at a desk to the edge of the classroom, by the window, but in the middle row. I sat by the window and Lock sat in the isle. We talk to each other quietly until a girl in a short pink skirt and tight white blouse comes bounding up to our table, her cleavage bouncing with her, ready to spill out of the unbuttoned top. Ugh, I knew what she was after.

"Heya, you must be new, I'm Kacey." She giggled and batted her eyelids flirtatiously at Lock and didn't notice me sitting there. Rude! Though, to be honest, her make-up was caked in thick layers over her face, so much so, that pimples could form just by looking at it. The look in her eyes definitely told us she was on the prowl. I looked my brother in the eye with a wide eyed gaze as if to say - what a tart!

"No, sorry, I'm not New, I'm Locki, sorry to disappoint." he replied, chuckling. The girls face was just priceless, she just sat there in shock as we laughed at her, until she composed herself.

"Ha ha, looks like we've got another comedian in the group. I like it when guys are funny." she said with a low voice, obviously not taking the hint, so I rolled my eyes.

I knew my brother, I knew he wouldn't go for a girl like this, who was all looks and no brains, he had been in a relationship with a girl named Mel for two years and she was just the sweetest thing. They broke up before we moved back here because they both knew that long distance wouldn't work out with being on two separate continents, but I had wished they could have stayed together, she was like a sister to me.

"Look, Kacey, you seem like a nice girl but my brother just isn't interested," I told her. "So why don't you just run along now back to your posy, ok? They look like they are more up to your speed." I held out a fist to Lock and he fist bumped it and nodded in agreement, as he held in the laughter.

Kacey looked between Lock and I, then huffed and walked away, shaking her ass as she did, as if to tell us she was better than us. Pfft, yeah right. Lock and I sat there giggling away like children, until the door of the room way yanked open, causing the noise from the hallway to stream in.

In he walked, all swagger and confidence, with his thick wavy brown locks and dark piercing eyes, dressed in a dark T, rolled up at the sleeves, black jeans and converse, looking as scrummy as anything.

 I was so screwed.
