It's been a wild month. I've had to chat with Haskell so he would leave my family alone, but it hasn't been good for my emotions. I've cut all contact with Ray and Nicky, unwillingly mind you, but they keep calling me. I just hope that they don't make a trip down here, it might ruin everything.
I grabbed my suitcase and walked out of my room as Sam walked out of hers and Jay's. Isaac looked at us, "Do I detect a voyage of some kind?" Sam smiled, "We're going away for the weekend. Everything's been so crazy since moving here, but we finally got a second to breathe, so we're going to Ohio to see if our dead mom is a ghost." My hands shook, "Sam, I don't think it's a good idea if I go. I don't-" Sam grabbed my hands, "It will be okay. Nothing is going to happen." Trevor walked over and wrapped an arm around my waist, "I also think she should stay." Sam raised an eyebrow, "Why? So you two can fondle each other?" Pete pointed at Trevor, "I agree with Trevor. Sam, Maggie is in danger. If that murderer sees you with her, who knows what will happen."
Sam sighed, "Mags, please. I need you for this. After this, you don't have to leave ever again." I nodded, "Fine. I'll go, but I don't like it." Pete looked between us, "How did your mom die if you don't mind me asking?" Sam nodded, "Allergic reaction. She was at a restaurant and didn't realize the dish she ordered had shrimp in it." Pete nodded, "Ah. I had a pretty severe shellfish allergy myself, which is why I always carried an Epipen. Of course, those don't protect you against everything."
Sass looked at us, "We're sorry about your mom, you guys." I smiled, "Thank you. It was six years ago. Honestly, we're excited. We never got a chance to say goodbye, and now we might get to see her, so that's amazing." Mimi nodded, "Okay, but remember to keep your wits about you amongst those buckeyes, Samantha. Rutherford B. Hayes was from Ohio, so...You get it." Sam nodded, "Okay. I've got to pack. Mags seem to be ready," She grabbed my hands again, "Please, don't be nervous. It'll be okay."
------------
I sat in the backseat of Jay's car and he got in, sighing, "I can't believe you have to go through this, Mags. It's just not fair for you." I numbly nodded, "It's okay. Jay?" Jay hummed and looked at me through the mirror, "What's up?" I teared up, "If I die, will you remember me?" Jay faced me quickly, "You're not going to die." I sighed and whispered, "We both know Haskell is a monster. It's no use trying to convince us otherwise." Jay teared up, "I know. Maggie?" I hummed, "Yeah?" Jay took a shakey breath, "Do you think you'll become a ghost and only Sam can see you? Or will you just pass on and leave entirely?"
I leaned over and grabbed his hand, "I will do everything in my power to stick by you, Jay. You're my best friend." Jay smiled and squeezed my hand, "Let's go, babe!" Sam got into the car and we headed off to Ohio to see our mother.
------
We sat in the car in front of the restaurant and Jay looked at us, "Are you ready? How are you two feeling?" Sam sighed, "Nervous. We haven't seen her in six years. And I know it sounds dumb, but I just...I kind of want her to be proud of me." Jay shook his head, "That doesn't sound dumb at all." Sam looked at Jay, "Well, of course you don't think so. You still call your mom when you finish your crossword." Jay pointed at me, "She calls mom too! Besides, it was a Saturday one, and I did it in ink." Sam smiled, "But the last I saw our mom was when we'd gone home for Thanksgiving. She and I got into this huge fight because she told me I should give up journalism, apply to law school, and be as successful as Mags."
Jay nodded, "Yeah, but what did you do? You stuck with it." Sam frowned, "Well, I'm doing fine, but it's not like I'm writing for The New York Times or anything." I frowned, "But you're also not being controlled by a murderer who unsuccessfully killed you two years ago either. Trust me, being successful isn't always a good thing, Sammy." Jay pointed at me, "She's right. Do you think Mags is happy? Right now, with everything going on? She has Trevor, I still don't know how that is working since one is dead, but he's the reason she smiles right now. I can't hate the guy that much. I can, but at the moment, he's an angel."
