The Dream

My heart hammered in my chest as the ground shook beneath my feet. The landscape around me was foreign, unearth-like. I glanced around, trying to find any of my team members, but there was no one. I was alone. And I was going to die.

Hundreds of Chitauri were advancing on me. I tried to run, to fly, to escape, but my body wouldn't respond. The creatures were so close now. A hand snaked to grasp my throat. A shout of shock left my lungs as I tried to electrocute everything within a ten-meter radium, but my powers were useless.

"You could have avoided this," seethed the most terrifying voice I'd ever heard.

My eyes focused on a large purplish figure emerging from the fog.

"How?" I managed to choke. My hands weakly trying to remove the chitauri's grip around my throat.

"You could have submitted to me. Now you've left me no choice."

"I'll do anything," I coughed. I didn't want to die. Life had been so happy.

"Anything?" he purred.

"Yes. Anything"

"Sorry, I don't negotiate" he spat. His face was contorted into a wicked grin that made my stomach lurch.

"Why are you doing this?"

"It was always the plan," he chuckled. "Earth was just a distraction. You seriously thought I'd be interested in a planet so weak and wasted? Never! All I ever wanted was Asgard. To finally see Odin and Thor burn beneath my feet. And now, thanks to your 'Avengers', I will!"

"I...I...I don't understand?" I cried.

"I planted those ideas in Loki's head. Told him lies in order to pull Thor away from Asgard. Thor has always had a weakness for this pathetic planet. All I had to do was watch as you distracted him with you human problems. Watch as you tried to prepare for an attack on Earth. But Earth was never the target. Thanks to you, I'll finally take hold of Asgard. And you'll be too busy preparing for a fake attack."

His large hand, covered in a golden glove, raised towards me.

"You can't do this, Thanos"

A sickening laugh filled the air as the glove began to glow. The power coursed through the air. I could see it shooting towards me. I was finished.

"Say goodbye"

Goodbye.

I jolted awake.

It took my mind a few seconds to interpret my surroundings. My dark bedroom was ruined. While sleeping I must have used my powers accidentally. My bookshelf was on its side, the desk had been flipped, the drawers were smashed and the glass of my lamp was shattered on the floor.

My lungs were still gasping rapidly for breath when I realised a cool hand was rubbing my shoulder.

"Lo..Loki?"

"You must have had a bad dream, darling," he sighed, his smooth lips finding my neck in reassurance.

I wasn't sure how to react. My wild bed hair and skimpy nightdress had me feeling slightly self-conscious. I pushed that from my mind and tried to slow my breathing.

"I saw something. I...I know this will sound crazy...but I talked to Thanos," I gasped.

He looked at me quizzically. "You spoke with each other? In your dream?"

"He told me something before he killed me," Loki's eyebrows raised at my words but he let me continue, "He said the target has never been Earth. That it was all a distraction to take Asgard."
