"Here she comes, good old Sigyn," Barton laughed as I entered the change room to grab my suit.
In light of my 'official' introduction to the most evil person I knew of, I had woken up in a bad mood. The glare I sent him was enough to send him silent. The team had learnt early on that being electrocuted was not a comfortable experience.
I pulled on the skintight suit in one of the cubicles of the female bathroom. To my dismay it seemed to have shrunk from our last mission. In some unbelievable turn of events, I'd ended up chasing the Mandarin, or rather the fake Mandarin with Tony in tow, and been pushed into the Jacuzzi in the process. It sounded even more ridiculous when I thought about it now. I groaned out loud, it was now so tight that the zip wouldn't pass my chest area. I threw myself onto the tiled floor and covered my eyes.
"I quit!" I announced to bathroom. "I'm through with bashing bad guys and following Fury's orders. I'm done!"
"No you're not" came a soft voice.
I pushed open the door and saw Romanoff fixing her hair in the mirror. We'd never had much to say to each other, only the occasional observation of the weather or mission related comments. She paused her mirror gazing and turned to me.
"I didn't take you for a quitter, Potts"
"You would be too if you had to babysit a psychopath"
"I've had my fair share," she laughed. My eyes widened at the sound I didn't know she was capable of.
She turned to me and offered her hand, pulling me up from the floor.
"You're going to do this, Potts. Or heaven forbid I'll be the only female on the team"
I rolled my eyes.
"Look, I know we don't exactly get along..."
"Well I wouldn't say that. We don't talk enough to not get along"
"What I was going to say was that, while I don't like to admit it, we need you on the team. You're strong in combat, great with tech, and the electrical... thing? Well that just makes you the triple threat," she said, pursing her lips as if the idea tortured her.
I didn't know what to say. Black Widow surely must have bumped her head recently.
"See here," she pointed to the cleavage busting out of my shrunken skin suit, "You're already on your way to taming Loki"
"What with cleavage?" I laughed.
"Hey, he may be a psychopath but he's still a man! And between you and me, there's nothing like a good...asset," she winked.
I frowned, looking down at my chest. Maybe Natasha was right; it couldn't hurt could it?
"Now off you go! I don't want to hear another word from you!"
As I walked out of the bathroom and towards the training room where Fury had requested me for the meeting, I couldn't take my mind off Natasha. Friendly was definitely the last word I'd use to describe Romanoff, yet somehow today she has turned tables.
I glanced up from my boots and stopped dead in my tracks. Steve was coming down the hall. Why were things so awkward now? This time last week we'd taken a SHIELD jet from New York to Los Angeles and spent the day at Disneyland, and now here I was, too afraid to even talk.
I looked around, trying to consider possible escape options. There was a power point only a few meters away. I could just make a run for it. Or there was a door to my left, I could duck in there before he saw....
"Rose!"
Oh no.
I tried to turn around.
"Hey, Rose?"
