The Meeting

Steve's lips had barely touched mine when he let out a small yelp and jolted backwards.

"I'm sorry, Steve. I didn't realise I would zap you."

"It's okay," he said, hesitantly rubbing my shoulder in comfort and making sure only to touch the material of my shirt.

This was ridiculous, I thought to myself. Sure my powers were useful occasionally when Tony was chucking spanners at me, but all the other times? I was constantly aware that the smallest of physical contact would result in someone else's pain. I was too afraid to admit to Steve that that had been my first sort-of-kiss, so I leapt up and declared I was going to be late for my meeting.

Steve was right behind me though.

"I shouldn't have done that. I shouldn't have compromised our work relationship. It's against every rule," Steve was saying under his breath. He seemed to be having a mental breakdown over breaking 'orders'.

"It's not your fault, Steve. Can we just go back to being friends and forget this ever happened?"

He nodded vigorously.

I smiled, and took the chance to retreat.

So that had been my first chaste kiss and it had been a mistake. Typical.

I mean, there had never been anyone special enough to kiss! If I was honest with myself I had secretly envied the relationship Tony and Pepper for years. The intimacy both mentally and physically was something foreign to me. After all, the slightest touch from any part of my body caused an violent electric shock, never mind the extensive damage done if the contact was longer then three seconds.

When I was safely in the confines of my bedroom, I quickly typed a few extra words to the end of my essay and submitted it. That would be good enough to at least keep Maria Hill off my tail. I spent the remainder of my ten minutes cleaning up my hair and makeup. Then, I turned and touched the closest power point which immediately sucked me into the wires. It was a strange feeling, travelling through cables and wires. I had to concentrate firmly on Fury's office within SHIELD headquarters, and within a split second I materialised from the power point under his desk.

Admittedly, I loved the irritation it caused Nick. His face was truly priceless. If looks could kill I surely would have erupted in flames.

"Miss Potts, you know better than to teleport directly into me office. Go outside and knock like a normal person."

When I didn't make a move, his eyes narrowed.

"Now, Potts. Or I'll have R&D experiment on you."

I growled curses under my breath as I shut the door behind me, and then knocked twice.

"Come in."

"Oh, hello there Miss Potts. How are you today?" asked Nick politely as if my rude interruption had never occurred.

"Fine"

"As your sister has told you, I have an important issue to discuss."

I sat silently in the provided chair and waited patiently. Who knew how long it would take Nick to get to the point.

He'd been prattling on for ten minutes when a sentence caught my attention.

"I have been looking over your record. And I must say, it is exceptional!"

I frowned, unsure of what to make of this compliment.

"Uhh, thanks?"

"Compared to your fellow Avengers, perhaps not including Rogers, you have the most spotless record and it hasn't gone unnoticed."
