Chapter 10: Board Game Battles

Narrator POV:

Wow! I'm getting more time to talk! Yippie!! (okay now you're really getting on my nerves) Sorry. We time skip to an afternoon the next day. Let's see where our characters are at!

Our four objects are gathered in a circle on the floor, all gazing at their cards. Oh! It looks like they're playing a game. They wait for the next player, who is Nicki, to take her turn-

(alright time's up)

WAIT WHAT ARE YOU-

Balloon's POV:

I glance down at the 5 cards I have. Maybe I can make this work and win. I've never really been a fan of card games, or board games in general, but when you're playing with Nickel and his cousins, it's always bound to be fun and chaotic.

Nicki glances back at the card pile and then to her 2 cards. We urge her to hurry up, but she dismisses us with her foot and goes back to thinking.

"Come on, Nicki." Nicks rolls his eyes. "Just put down a card. It's not that hard."

Nickel doesn't say anything this time. He just watches Nicki closely, watching what she does. He also has two cards and was right before her, so he as to play it safe.

I giggle. Nickel is really competitive, and the glint in his eyes show that. It makes him look... OKAY BALLOON, CALM DOWN. I start to redden and hope none of them notices.

Nicki sticks out her tongue. "Just give me a moment." She adjusts her headband then looks back down at her cards before putting down a red 2.

"UNO!" She stands up screams loudly. Some of the others around the area whip their heads and stare at her. She chuckles nervously, apologizing, and they go back to what they were doing.

Nicki wears a smug smile and sits back down. Uh oh. It's my turn. I hesitantly put down a red 1. Great... I have no more reds. Nicks pulls out a blue 1 and places it down. Now it's Nickels turn. He grins evilly and laughs. Nicki raises an eyebrow, starting to worry. Nicks and I glance at each other. What could Nickel have planned?

Nickel dramatically picks up his card and places it down.

"UNO!" He screams. 

We all look to see what he put down. I can see the dread and faint horror on Nicki's face.

It was a plus 4 card.

Nicki keeps her glare on Nickel as she grabs 4 cards. Nickel keeps her gaze and smiles innocently. Nicks and I try our hardest not to laugh. Because that card was put down, it skips Nicki and goes to me. I'm about to put a card down when I remember that I don't what the color is.

"Hey, Nickel? What's the color?"

Nickel looks up from his one card. "Oh. Green." 

Of course. Green is his favorite color. Luckily, I have a green. I place it down. Nicks smirks. Alright, how does EVERYONE have a plan except for me? He places down a green skip, expecting it to skip Nickel and go on to Nicki.

Nickel looks unfazed, instead, a small smile creeps onto his face. As he puts down his last card, I catch a glimpse of it and see that it's red. 

"Hey-" Nicks starts but leaves his mouth open in shock when the full card is revealed.

A red skip.

"UNO OUT! BOOM!!" Nickel exclaims, a smug smile on his face. He does a little victory spin, laughing and cheering. Nickel could be really cute at times. Nicki and Nicks look like deer in headlight. I smile, not surprised that I lost.
