Chapter Song - Real Love Baby by Father John Misty
Spencer's suitcase is so overly heavy my arm slumps from the surprising weight. "What did you pack in here, Darlin'? Rocks and wood?" I comment as I haul her bag into the back seat of my truck, along with my duffle bag.
"Maybe it isn't my bag, maybe you've had some muscle loss," she teases, patting my bicep. "I think all your mothers cheesecake bites have gotten to you."
I smack her ass and she squeals, laughing as she quickly hops into the passenger seat. Getting into the drivers seat myself, the dawn of the early morning is peaceful and exhilarating as always.
We're heading to Florida this morning, catching an early morning flight. There's bull riding competitions down there Ford and I are competing in, but they're only for a day, so we thought to stretch the trip out for a couple more days and relax down in Miami.
The beach is a rarity for us Texans to see and visit, so when the opportunity arises we take it with a firm grip. Kaylee and Adele are travelling seperate to us along with Ford and Hunter, all of us meeting at the airport.
"So," I drag out in the peaceful quiet we have.
Spencer arches a brow my way. "Yes, Maverick?"
"You're making me a bit nervous, Darlin'. I'm trying to ask you an important question." I say, and she only continues to stare at me with that same arched brow. "Will you be my girlfriend?"
Spencer's silent for beat, simply staring at me. "What the fuck, Maverick, I thought I already was?" She questions incredulously.
I chuckle. "Just wanted to make sure we were on the same page."
"Slow reader." She mutters.
I pinch her thigh, earning a giggle in response. This girl has no idea how much pure relief simply fills my chest when I see that smile on her face replicate into her eyes. There was so much sadness in the,, so much agony beneath them the first time we met.
It's the greatest thing to know it's eased, that a part of those heavy emotions have lifted. And maybe I do or don't have something to do with that, but I don't care if it's either. She's happier now, lighter in her grief, and that's all that matters.
Arriving at the airport, I park and pay for my spot. I unload Spencer and I's luggage, before taking her hand and heading towards the elevators of the car park.
Making it through check-in and security, we're finally walking to our terminal where everyone else already sits. I can feel the tension all the way from down the end, Ford's gaze stuck on Adele who is rightfully ignoring him completely.
"Mornin'," I greet everyone. "How long 'till they start boarding?"
"Few minutes for first class, then we'll be after." Kaylee answers. "You two are late. I'm guessing that's your fault, Mav'?" She teases.
