"It really was you?" Lei looked stunned once again."You're actually my senior?" He calculated the age difference in his head. "Were you lying about your age then?" He was confused, unsure of what was real and what was fake anymore. I laughed lightly as he tried to sort it out.
"I never claimed to be younger than any of you, it was just assumed. I'm about six years your senior." I explained.
"Does my father know? About everything?" He trailed off. Unable to comment on the obvious difference. His suspicions were realized, I was most definitely a girl and not a boy.
"Mm, he didn't know until last year, when I returned to your house." I replied. I moved away from the bed, to the corner of the room where the undergarments and underclothes were folded on a shelf. I lifted a small panel of the wall and pulled out a small vial of dark liquid, it was almost black in color. Removing it gently, I replaced the board.
"What's that?" He asked. Ever so gently I tucked it inside my robes, where it'd be safe until we returned to the palace.
"Sometimes I come across people that are more sensitive to my scent than others. Like that man..." I referred to the person we were staying with."While it will affect most everyone in small enclosed spaces to some degree, being out in the open, or in a large room, it should just come off as pleasant to be around. Unless I breathe into their face." I paused, Lei listened attentively to every word I said, was he affected now? His eyes were slightly dilated, but I couldn't smell my scent too heavily on him. "When we return to the palace I'll give this to you, it should help with your over sensitivity. This isn't enough to be a permanent fix, but I should be able to use my energy soon, and that will also help."
"Why can't I take it now?" He asked. So eager to get rid of the over sensitivity?
"There's a good chance you'll fall asleep right after taking it, I may not be able to wake you up for a while." I explained.
"What's in it?" He asked.
"A lot of things, but in small amounts." I didn't want to get into the details.
"How much of it would I have to take to be completely immune?" He questioned further.
"Mm this size of dose? Maybe twenty five or so vials? But you couldn't take more than one a week or you might die." I answered honestly. His eyes widened a bit. It would negate the effects from the poison in my blood, which was the far more important result.
"Why is it like this in the first place?" He referred to the strangeness of my scent.
"My body is filled with poison." I replied as if it were a normal thing. His hands unconsciously grabbed at his robes, leaving a few wrinkles.
"Is there a cure?" He asked, as if he would leave immediately to fetch it for me. Cute.
"If you count death as a cure." I trailed off. The end of our stay was quickly approaching, we would need to return soon. Someone was likely to notice one or both of us missing.
"Does the poison hurt? Will it kill you?" He asked, his voice sounded sad.
"It doesn't cause me pain anymore, my body is used to it. Generally speaking it won't kill me, my body has its own balance." My head tilted as I watched him. He looked, worried? Why would he worry about me? That sensitive to my scent? I leaned forward to gently pick up his wrist and look into his eyes. They dilated more as he watched me so closely. His pulse was fast, sweat appeared on the back of his neck.
"Relax, I won't hurt you." I said quietly. He swallowed loudly, nodding.
"I know." He trailed. I looked at him oddly, if he knew I wasn't going to hurt him, why was he so worried? Releasing his wrist, I slowly moved my hand up to his forehead and gently flicked him with my finger. He stared back at me blankly, motionless.
