I'd come across a few on my travels and had even killed several of his minions as paid contracts. He'd hire a group of thugs to spread a pest or bacteria, the problem would fester for a long time before suddenly exploding into a dilemma. At that time he'd rush in, the hero, when in fact large sums of the supplies and money would go missing, covered by fake books that were submitted to the finance departments. As for the witnesses that testified to his great deeds, they were typically the same thugs he hired to start the mess.
"Who are you working for?" I asked, while watching him from a short distance away.
"Corisial." Official Chao said. Rage immediately burst through me as I heard the name of our creator, the person behind the three of us. I long ago vented my anger on anyone I could track down who was involved in our youth. Not burning the entire country to the ground was something that still bothered me.
Corisial was part of the royal family of a neighboring country. Unsure of who would rise up if we killed off the royal family, we left them alive. Reluctantly. The only saving grace was the rest of the royal family had no affiliations with his experiments. They removed his title and took away everything he owned. My fists clenched hard as I felt my nails nearly piercing my skin, I held back.
"Why?" I asked.
"To unite the people. To bring more people to the cause." His eyes looked at me in wonder, as if he saw a fairy tale enfolding before his eyes. The cause. The cause?
"What is the cause?" I asked, still trying to regain my composure.
"We can unite everyone, give purpose. There's a lot of people here, people that nobody will miss. They're using up the resources, such precious resources. What if we can give them purpose? What if we can make them better? What if there's a way to change them?" His hands clapped together in excitement.
"What kind of experiments are they doing to the people?" I asked.
"Well, they haven't started yet. We can't start yet, we're not ready. First we have to get more people on our side!" He laughed.
"Is the Emperor on your side?" I asked.
"No, no, not yet, we haven't taken care of that yet." He smiled.
"The Crown Prince?" I asked.
"She's almost ready, we'll bring her here, she'll make him see." He said.
"Who?" I asked.
"She's beautiful, she's not as beautiful as you! But she's beautiful. She'll help him see how great things will be. He'll marry her!" He laughed.
"Is she here now?" I asked.
"No, no, she's at my house, we're just waiting." He said.
A loud crash hit the door. I could sense Pierce and the host from the previous city outside the door. Nonsense.
Nearby, Blake and Lei pleaded with them to stop. Unable to directly offend a Prince, they waited on the side while trying to rationalize. A group of soldiers rammed the doors over and over. The Crown Prince was still unconscious, he was propped up against a wall while Lei and Blake stood guard. I could feel Nomi nearby, nervously clenching her hands. Likely feeling that I'd manipulated all the men around me, she became worried and sought help. Irrational.
My hand reached out in front of me, I clenched the neck of Official Chao until his throat collapsed. He fell to his knees as I released my grip. I struck his heart with my palm, using enough force to knock him several rows back.
"Does anyone standing have more information to tell me?" I asked.
"No." they all replied in unison.
"If any of you so much as thinks of harming the Crown Prince I will come back to eradicate your entire family. As soon as I leave, remove or clean anything with my blood on it and burn it in the fire." I yelled over the room.
