Carmilla P.O.V
Speeding to the car park, I open my car and get in rapidly, completely ignoring the repetitive signal that's telling me to pull my seatbelt on. All I could see was Adeline's little face, her eyes begging for me to save her, pleading with me to not let her down. The lump in my throat was growing as my reality set in, knowing I'm about to go trade my life in for Adelines. If someone came to me seven years ago and told me I would be frantically driving to my death to save the life of a little girl, I would have shot them in the face for pissing me off. But here I am. I swallowed down as my stomach churned, wishing to throw up from stress. "Putain, bouge" I groaned at the car blocking my way, not allowing me the space to overtake it. Grabbing the perfect chance, I sped into the oncoming lane before sliding back in front of the car, missing the approaching car by a second. I glanced back through my rear mirror, seeing the driver behind me honk and mouth insults at me as he raged. "Suck my dick" I murmur as I drive off, quickly disappearing into the exit lane.
"Translation: fuck, move"
Always with the dramatics. I get out of the car, slamming the door behind me as the evening crickets creep in beside the lake, my feet sinking in the wet mud with every step I take towards the large rusted warehouse. My car locking echoes against the stark silence as I scan the empty fields around me. Hand on my holster, I stop in front of the open shutters, the cold warehouse pitch black as I try to make out any figures, or shadows lurking around, ready to pounce when I'm blind. "Cole? I'm here, stop being a drama queen and come out "I call out as I creep in silently, each step slow and calculating as I listen for any creaks. You could hear a pin drop in the room as I pan forward, my eyes narrow as I try to search for any sign of life, any sign of death. My eyes fall on a glimpse of light seeping under a dark door at the back of the warehouse, my pulse rising along with my feet as I tread towards the door, my gun aimed forward in prolepsis.
It's a trap Carmilla, don't open the door. I ignore my intuition, knowing it's probably right but I can't afford to be cautious. I need her, I need Adeline. Slowly, I turn the door knob, pulling the door open harshly as I aim my gun into the empty room, sighing in relief yet dreading the inevitable reality that this was a trick. A little letter sticks out like a sore thumb on the floor, calling my name to pick it up and read it. Carefully, I walk over to it before leaning down to pick it up.
Traitor.
A tossed metal makes me jump up as the door locks me in, trapping me with the little ornament circling the floor. I run over to the door, my hand desperately twisting and nudging the door knob to open but it's no avail, it's locked. I use my shoulder to push against the metal door, bashing my body to try and knock it open before a quiet whistling makes me halt immediately. Shit. Cautiously, I turn to see where the noise is coming from, my heart sinking as I see the gray smoke leaking out of the grenade. My mind blurs into panic as I aim for the door again, using all my force to escape. "Cole! Fucking open this door!" I yell out, hoping he'll listen. "Fuck!" I screech in between my gritted teeth, my jaw locked in rage as my shoulder pounds its way against the metal.
"Come on" I groan as I switch shoulders, my mind going fuzzy as the smoke rises, each particle entering through my nose and mouth as I pant. My body crawls weaker and weaker, each thud gentler as my eyes begin to burn, my lungs penetrating coughs as my hands shoot to cover my eyes, rubbing burning tears away as I stumble to my feet. Gasps of my shallow breath echoes through the smoke and onto the walls as I crouch down onto the floor, my elbows scraping against the cement floor, leaving lines of futile desperation across my skin. "Cole.. help" I gasp out in a whisper, my lungs suffocating as my vision begins to spin, my skin itching and heating. A little spin of a key rings in my ears before my body falls flat, his figure appearing with a mask, my vision halting as I fade.
