Hidden Mistake

CHAPTER 24

Silence stretched after what I said. Walang umimik ni isa. I know they can sense that it isn't just about the mission.

"It's not her fault. It's mine. Don't put the blame on her alone, cause I'm the one who started it." Hunt said after a while.

His hand on my arms loosened. "Now, if you're still bothered by anything, drop it now so we can solve it. I don't want to hear any false gossip about Zyl being unprofessional when, in fact, I'm the one at fault."

Rainela just stared at the both of us.

"Cap, tumatawag na si General. Pinapatawag na tayo sa HQ." si Yudis na bumaba ng driver's seat at binigay ang cellphone kay Hunt.

Napahinga ako ng malalim at dumiretso na papasok sa van. Zed is about to get inside, pero pinigilan siya ni Hunt at pinaupo sa passenger's seat.

Hunt sat beside me and heaved a deep sigh.

"I'm sorry. Don't worry, I'll explain it to General."

"You don't have to say sorry over something that is not your fault. We sometimes have fun during missions before, and it was still successful. She just wants to mess up with me."

Natahimik na lang siya. I leaned my body on the backrest and tried to relax. The whole ride is filled with silence.

"We're here." Napaayos ako ng upo sa sinabi ni Hunt.

He looked at me. "You can rest in your cabin if you're tired. General will understand. Zed will monitor you."

Umiling agad ako sa kalagitnaan ng sinabi niya. "No. I'll be there in the meeting."

"Fine. Just tell me if you feel exhausted." he sighed and took his jacket off to put on my exposed shoulders.

I smiled at him a little, then walked inside. We all stood properly and gave a salute to General.

Nasa loob na kami ng meeting room ngayon. Hunt gave him the evidence we gathered, and he stood beside General in front.

"Good job on another successful mission. Though, I think you have some issues while doing it, I called you here to resolve that matter. " General spoke and almost everyone looked down.

"We've been doing missions for quite some time now with you, Agent Nyx, leading the whole team. I never heard anyone on your team question your ways of finishing the mission. This is the first time. Why so?"

I stared at General seriously. I wanted to tell him that the problem was not me. Sabi nga niya walang nagrereklamo kahit noon sa paraan kung paano ko gawin ang misyon. Ngayon lang.

"I apologize, General. Yes, I admit that I became unprofessional by talking with Hunt in the earpiece while doing the mission. However, I think it did not affect my job. I did it when I got the chance to wait for Varias in the hallway. Not during the real deal between me and the target."

I saw in my peripheral vision how Hunt took a little step forward.

"I'm sorry, General, but I'm the one at fault. I kept on bugging Agent Nyx when I had the chance. I know it's unprofessional of me to interrupt her while she's doing her work. I'm sorry for letting my emotions overpower me." Hunt butted in.

General massaged the bridge of his nose. I licked my lower lip and looked down.

Damn! It's not supposed to be a big deal.

"Pasensya na rin, General. Tinutukso ko kasi si Hunt habang minomonitor namin si Agent Nyx. Kaya ayun, nag-alala at hindi naiwasang kulitin si Nyx sa earphones." napakamot sa sentido si Yudis habang nagpapaliwanag.
