"How many times do I tell you not to run in the halls?" Mrs. Hopkins scolded Skylar, her fingers still pulling on her ear. "How many times, Skylar?"

"Mrs. Hopkins, I have a valid reason this time." Skylar proudly smiled. Mrs. Hopkins raised her eyebrow at her response.

"I'm listening."

"My best friend, right here, is the reason," Skylar dramatically said. "You cannot expect me to calmly walk into the infirmary when my best friend almost collapsed on her first day of school. I had to race down here to see if she's okay!"

Mrs. Hopkins rolled her eyes, but there was a hint of a smile on her lips. She was trying hard to fight off the smile.

"You could've gotten hurt, Sky."

"But I didn't."

"You could've."

"But I didn't." Skylar grinned proudly, emphasizing that she hadn't gotten injured after crashing against the wall on her way to the infirmary. Mrs. Hopkins shook her head and sighed as she let go of Sky's ear. Skylar Moore had experienced far worse injuries during her racing tournaments, so this was nothing to her. She had a high pain tolerance, so she could easily brush off the minor injuries.

Once Mrs. Hopkins let go of Sky's ear, her grin widened. She had won their little argument, and now Mrs. Hopkins couldn't scold her anymore. I chuckled as I watched the scene before me. Part of me sympathized with Mrs. Hopkins, as she seemed like the only one tasked with the older sister's responsibilities. First, she had to shoo Chris away from the infirmary so he could attend his classes, and now she searched for relevant medical supplies to treat the small bruise on her arm.

Skylar's focus now shifted to me, and her grin fell as a look of concern washed over her face.

"You okay?" She asked with a gentle voice. I nodded and flashed a soft smile.

"How did you know I was here?" I asked her. She wasn't even present when this happened, so I wonder how she got to find out.

"When I returned to the gates after parking my car, I noticed you were absent. Then a few students told me you were here because they saw Lancaster bring you in."

I nodded. That sounds about right. For a brief moment, there was silence. Skylar wanted to say something more, but she was holding back. Maybe she didn't know how to bring it up.

"You okay there, Sky?"

"Chris Lancaster brought you in?"

We both asked at the same time and then chuckled.

"You go first."

"Right, because my question's more important than yours," Skylar chuckled. "Seriously, though, do you have any idea whose attention you just grabbed? Because girl!"
