Chapter 20: Nachtschatten

Lesso wasn't really happy that I not only woke her up earlier, since she had her assembly, but that I left her alone after. Not that I didn't want to see her, but I had to go see the others and make sure they knew I was alright. And to check on the poor souls that are Eros and Nali. 

I really hope I didn't scare them that bad.

The dining hall was as loud and crammed as ever. By now some if not all of the students had started to mix together.

"Good morning! Caiden, right?" I turned to a boy looking at me. Elle's son, I think? The boy was a little shorter than me and wore Ever clothes. White shirt, blue vest, and trousers.

"Yes, Levi?" he nodded at my question, and I sent him a grin.

"Lesso has been trying to find you but I'm guessing she's already found you? Or you her?"

"Don't worry. She's found me," Levi smiled and nodded with a bow before waving and walking off. 

I see why Ravenna befriended him. He's a nice boy.

I turn back and walk to my own group. Jayla looks to be telling some sort of joke and everyone else looks completely disappointed.

"Good morning, guys," I say, saving them from Jayla's terrible joke. All their eyes shoot to me. Most filled with relief. But one filled with uneasiness and another filled with what seems to be anger. I lift my hands in defeat.

"Look, I know I hurt Nali. I'm sorry. I take full blame," Ravenna narrows her eyes at me and folds her arms.

"I found Nali bleeding out and had almost gone into cardiac arrest," I wince at her tone but also at what could have happened. "If she didn't come out alive. I would have knifed you," The table goes completely silent and tense.

"You've known this woman for what? Like five days? And you would have killed me over her?" I ask in a scoff "Didn't she stalk you for months?" Ravenna's eyes turn to a murderous glare making me sweat a little. She leans forward and whispers.

"Yes, to all of those," I roll my eyes.

"Some friend," And that seemed to piss her off. Ravenna shot up from where she sat and walked around the table. I was still standing but now she towered over me.

"If someone were to lay their hands on Lesso, what would you do?" She asks still in a whisper.

"You've known her for five days," I repeat.

"Answer the damn question," I try to search her eyes for anything but she's right. I'd kill every damn soul I need to for that woman.

"Fine. I'm sorry," I say looking off to the side letting her win our staring contest. Ravenna doesn't sit down, instead brushing past me and heading for the door. Her shoulders are tense, and she looks like she wants to murder someone. I turn back to the group and sigh.

"Is it just me or does it seem like she picks a fight with us like every other day," I heard Darcy whisper under her breath. I try not to laugh.

"I'm sorry about the last few days. It wasn't fair. To you or anyone," They all give a nod and I spare a glance to Eros. He doesn't look at me instead looking down at the table but the flinch he gives indicates he knows I'm looking. While everyone else starts conversations around the table I walk over to him.

"Hey, want to talk about it?" I ask, rubbing a hand over his shoulder. He lifts his head and looks at me.

"Just don't chase me in the dark woods again. Please?" I give Eros a smile. Right as I go to speak a high pitch voice cuts me off. One I cover my ears for.
