broken order

chapter six

Kalan opened his eyes to see he was standing in ankle deep water and saw zey standing in front of him. "I'm sorry...." Kalan said. Zey shook his head. "The order is broken." Zey said. "The order is broken." Windu said appearing behind. "Only darkness remains." Delia said. "The order is broken!" Vorshe yelled in outrage. Vaders heavy machinical breathing filled his ears and he turned to see the cybrog sith standing among the fallen. "Let go." Vader said before reaching out for kalans throat.
Kalan came to laying on a medical table machines worked to replace his missing hand with a robotic one but one that looked real a man with tan skin and black hair and a neatly trimmed facial hair entered the room. Kalan knew this man as bail Organa. "Its okay your safe i am a friend of the jedi." Bail said. "Where are we?" Kalan asked his voice weak and horse his entire body ached. "Your at a decommissioned mining facility no one works here and its not on the empires patrol routes but you are recieving the best medical care possible for your injuries." Bail assured. "Why take the risk?" Kalan asked. "I helped save master yoda and kenobi when the sith formed the empire i dont know where they went after that sadly but i swore if a jedi needed my help then i would give it to them." Bail explained. "Once we leave you must forget you ever saw us its far too dangerous to be associated with the jedi right now." Kalan said trying to get up but failing grimacing in pain. "You were seriously injured in your battle with vader you need to rest my droids are going to perform surgery to remove the remainder of the glass and then you will need to stay in the bacta tank for a while. The droids are early decommissioned as far as the empire is concerned they are gathering rust at a junk yard the station is yours as i said its been decommissioned i am leaving as i wish i could aid you further i have my own priorities to protect such as my home and my one year old daughter." Bail said. Kalan nodded. "Thank you bail... This wont be forgotten." Kalan said before closing his eyes and slowing his breathing letting the force flow through sinking into it as if it was a healing pool.
It took dez several days to get to the space station evading the empires patrols she brought her starfighter to a landing in the hangar that the jedi had come to call zey station in honor of master zey who had fallen in battle against the hunters in the weeks since the loss of the council a makeshift council had been formed of kriva lyrad leon chad jana and zelan the new council had began to spread jedi to various bases to make them harder to find anywhere with a force nexus along with the station gifted to them by bail organa. Dez stormed down the corridor fuming with anger but trying to keep it contained as she headed for the medical wing. Jedi knight jasper seth saw her heading to the medical wing and moved to intercept her. "Moria you might want to wait before going in there." Seth advised. "Why is he in worse shape than i was told?" Dez demanded. "Yes in a way." Seth said uncomfortably. "What does that mean?" She demanded. "Hes not wanting visitors." Seth said. "Seth either move now or come with me as a patient." Dez said. "You know i am still a better fighter with a lightsaber right?" Seth asked. "You know i am still a better hand to hand fighter right?" Dez countered. Seth then stepped aside and she continued past him and entered the medical wing she saw the bacta tank empty she saw the shredded bloody remains of his tunic and saw him sitting in a chair meditating but could feel the swirling conflicting emotions around him anger grief guilt shame his head was lowered and dark cirlces were under his eyes which were red from tears. She saw his right hand and despite how realistic it seemed she knew it wasn't real. "I'm here." Dez said softly. "I know." Kalan said his voice cracked. "What do you need just tell me." She said softly kneeling at his lap and hugging his waist. "I need time..." Kalan said.
Llum
Kalan walked through the snow of the ice planet llum bundled tightly in his cloak he felt naked without a lightsaber but knew that the one taken from zion wasn't a real replacement for the one he had originally lost. He had left zey station without saying a word to the others and had brought only parts for a new lightsaber with him he didn't bring a blaster or vibroblade only enough food and water for three days and a heating vest that he wore under his tunic.
His wounds hadn't fully healed from his battle with vader and he wasn't ready to take up the mantle of jedi master not that there was a council to promote him to the rank regardless. He needed to understand the visions the force had been sending him all this time and put his conflicted mind to rest and while he came to llum to build a new lightsaber he had also come to find clarity.
He arrived at the llum kyber caves to see a star destroyer looming in the sky and he saw snow troopers using lasers to burn through the ice trying to gain entrance to the caves he let out a sigh of irritation.
He reached out in the force to touch the stormtroopers minds. "Command as recalled you to the base you must leave immediately." Kalan said planting the order in their minds. "Base just recalled us we must leave immediately." The lead trooper ordered. The troopers moved out returning to their forward operating base.
Kalan boosted his speed using the force and moved into the cave using the force to melt the ice wall in front of him allowing him entrance to the caves which froze behind him sealing him inside.
He continued into the darkness of the cave with only the force to guide him.
He heard voices of the past and present speaking to him in ghostly whispers. (The order is broken... the order is broken.... only darkness remains.... let go... let go... let go... LET GO!) The voices said together picking up in volume becoming louder and louder. (The order broken it is...) came master yodas voice. (Only darkness remains!) Came the voice of the emperor. (Let go.) Came obi-wan kenobis voice.
He came face to face with a reflection of himself his expression was tired and conflicted his eyes a cold blue. "The order is broken." His reflection stated. "How can I fix it?" Kalan asked. "Only darkness remains." His reflection stated. "No I can bring light back to the galaxy the jedi order isn't broken!" Kalan yelled. "The order is broken!" His reflection yelled back at him. "No!" Kalan yelled as the memories of all the events that have happened since the start of the clone wars. The battle on geonosis the constant battles and loss the fall of anikan the deaths of his friends the destruction of the padawan shuttle the deaths of the padawans and masters vader dragging him through the glass shards the look of horror and fear as mira was captured by the sith. He fell to his knees tears filling his eyes. "Let go!" His reflection yelled. "No!" Kalan yelled into the darkness he fell to his knees a sense of hopelessness coming over him.
A hand touched his shoulder and he looked up seeing his sister smiling back at him. "What do you want me to do?" Kalan asked. "Let go." She said. "Of what?" Kalan asked. "Let go kalan the order the pain the past its broken and only leads to darkness."  She said. A sense of understanding came to him the visions began to make sense he was constantly faced with those that were lost and carrying that burden which had weighed him down when he was trying to fix the jedi order that was broken and destroyed. He recalled teachings from master yoda to train himself to let go of everything he feared to lose a lesson he hadn't taken to heart nor put in practice. He looked at his sister and put a hand on her cheek. "I miss you.... I will always miss you but I can't avenge you." Kalan said. "I miss you to... and I and the force will be with you always." Alice said tears in her eyes.
Alice vanished and he saw an emerald crystal in the wall glowing in front of him he used the force to remove it from the wall he then assembled his new lightsaber igniting the green blade his doubts and conflicted feelings were gone and it felt as if a massive wieght had been lifted from his shoulders.
He heard movement and saw the storm troopers had breached the cavern and begun to storm into the cave he extinguished his lightsaber and closed his eyes letting the force flow through him.
He took a deep breath and let it out as troopers entered the chamber he was in. "Identify yourself!" The lead trooper yelled. Kalan ignited his lightsaber  causing the troopers to open fire he deflected every bolt back at the ones who shot them killing seven of the troopers as he advanced on them he sent four flying into the back wall. He brought a portion of the cieling down on five more troopers.
He cut down six more troopers slicing through one troopers blaster and threw the trooper into two more.
He kicked one trooper in the chin shattering his helmet as he slashed one trooper from the helmet to his hip. He extinguished his saber plunging them back into darkness blaster fire lit up the chamber focused on his last position but hitting only empty air his blade ignited behind the troopers as he cut down the remaining eight stormtroopers.
He walked out of the cave seeing another fifty snow troopers blocking his path with eweb blaster cannons and small walkers. 
He unleashed a powerful blast of force energy that sent all the troopers and walkers flying burying them in the snow and ice.
He then returned to his starfighter taking off and leaving llum behind.
Ziost
Zion opened his eyes in his meditation chamber and saw a hologram emitter come to life bringing a full sized image of darth sidious to stand before him he knelt to the image of his master. "You did well on mygeeto but most of the jedi escaped more than we realized survived order sixty six. Troubling news indeed." Sidious stated. "We captured a jedi I have her here I will get the location of the other jedi and I will destroy them my master." Zion stated. "You will give the information to lord vader he will deal with the surviving jedi without the masters the remaining jedi are leaderless and will be dealt with swiftly." Sidious stated. "And what of me my master?" Zion asked head still bowed. "You shall execute the jedi prisoner in your possession once there is no need for her. You will also aid lord vader when the time to eradicate the remaining jedi comes." Sidious instructed. "Yes my master." Zion said his fist tightening. "I sense your dissatisfaction speak." Sidious said a hint of irritation in his voice. "Lord vader is more machine than man his potential limited and his loyalty.... is questionable. I have done everything you asked completed every order dedicated my life to your will without question or complaint with the belief that I would take my place at your side as your true apprentice." Zion stated. Sidious was silent for a long moment that seemed to drag on forever. "I see." Sidious said. "You have shown true dedication... your reward shall be delivered to you I advise patience my apprentice." Sidious stated. Zion felt pride swell in his heart at hearing the title the recognition that he deserved was finally in his grasp. "Find the jedi and all our goals shall be achieved and our destinies at hand." Sidious stated.
The transmission ended as zion got to his feet he picked up his lightsabers he had yet to revert the white crystal back to red but it would work for now. He left his meditation room seeing alpha putting his helmet back on he had been blinded in one eye and had three fingers cybernetically replaced and had spent a while in a bacta tank for his thigh injury. "Status on the prisoner?" Zion asked. "She is awaiting interrogation Imperial intelligence is wanting her transfered to the inquistors base for interrogation and conversion." Alpha stated. "She isn't going to the inquistors we will handle her interrogation in house." Zion stated. "If that's the will of the emperor." Alpha nodded.
Zion entered the prisoners cell mira was strapped to a metal bed she had been changed from her jedi robes to a white Imperial prisoner jumpsuit but otherwise remained untouched. "You will give me the location of the jedi base and you will tell me how many jedi still remain it benefits you to cooperate." Zion said. "I will not tell you anything." Mira said definitely. "Then it is the hard way then very well you have made your choice." Zion stated as he reached out with the force invading miras mind seeking to rip the information out of her mind he felt her resistance trying to force him out but he pushed through her defiance and saw images of her time as a jedi during the clone wars even before the clone wars as a padawan but something happened he hadn't expected she invaded his mind as well seeing the conditions he had grown up in their experiences unfolding together like two holo dramas that were the polar opposite of eachother being spliced together.
He saw her playing with fellow younglings when she was just a child living in peace.
"Peace is a lie there is only passion. Your soft upbringing made the jedi order weak and frail." Zion stated reciting the first lines of the sith code even as the memory shifted to Zions own upbringing. "There is no emotion only peace." Mira recited. "Its understandable that you claim that peace is a lie its hard to believe in something you have never had but I don't see the passion in your past." Mira said. Zion forced his way deeper into her mind to where she was in the jedi temple meditating among other jedi padawans in the jedi temple on courasant. "Through passion i gain strength!" Zion recited the sith code. "Your complacency made your order an easy target to fall to the strength of the sith!" Zion stated. Only for the memory to be forced back to his own memory where he was whipped by instructors for showing mercy to a fallen student.
"There is no ignorance there is knowledge." She recited the next line of the jedi code. "How can you gain strength when you are blind to your ignorance that you are nothing to the emperor but a tool one he will use until you break." Mira said. "It doesnt have to be this way zion!" Maul yelled from his memory of confronting maul on morriban. "Dont you see?" Maul demanded. "Sidious is using you your nothing but a tool he will use and discard just like grievous.... Just like dooku.... And just like me!" Maul yelled sounding more pleadingly than zion recalled. "Once I take what I need from you I will take my place at my masters side!" Zion declared. "Sidious doesn't care about you nor will he give you what you want he desires only power and control he knows how powerful you are in the force he knows how desperate you are to prove yourself to obtain the goal he sat in front of you and that's why you will never obtain it its why vader is his chosen apprentice why dooku was his chosen apprentice because nether of them could gain the power or will to challenge him where you would. He uses what you want against you to control and manipulate you." Mira said. "Enough resisting I will take what I need from you right now!" Zion yelled as he reached past the memories the emotions but all he found was a little girl in jedi robes and he was that little boy in that school sidious had made to train him.
"What you truly desire isn't what you claim.... I sense only loneliness longing and fear you seek acceptance you seek purpose." Mira said. "I can only gain what I want by doing what my master ordered me to do!" Zion yelled. "Through victory my chains are broken the force shall free me." Mira recited the last parts of the sith code. "Are your chains broken have they ever been broken what you seek is freedom and you can obtain that away from the sith." Mira said. "There is no chaos there is harmony." Zions voice echoed the jedi code as he looked at Mira. "How?" Zion asked. Mira smiled warmly at him and offered a hand to him. "Let me show you." Mira said.
Meanwhile outside of the interrogation room alpha recieved a message from the emperor be knelt to his holoprojector that showed a miniature image of the emperor.
"Alpha unfortunately the time as come execute order 13." Sidious said. "It will be done my lord." Alpha said he stood up and pressed a button to summon the other hunters to the room once they arrived alpha turned to the interrogation room and let out a sigh of regret.
Zion stumbled away from Mira falling to his knees feeling as if his eyes were open for the first time in his entire life and he felt regret for all the lives he had taken every task he had performed all of it meaningless all of it to push the emperors agenda forward. He used the force to free Mira from her restraints she got up from the table and knelt next to him. "Come with me and help the jedi order stop the sith." Mira said. Zion looked at her as he was about to answer her but stopped when he sensed the lethal intent waiting just outside the door to the room he got up and directed her to a hidden hatch. "That will take you to the hangar the pass code to my starfighter is 0831z take it and get out of here." Zion ordered. "What about you?" She demanded. "I have to finish things here and I will meet you at the moon of yavin!" Zion said.
Mira went through the hidden passage and  zion turned to the door opening it to see the hunters gathered. "Why?" Zion asked not pretending to not know what the four were doing. "Nothing personal just following orders." Gamma said. "It doesn't have to be this way you all can choose to stop I rather not hurt you... you are all the closest thing I have to family." Zion said. "Thats sweet." Beta said. "But not enough." Delta said. "Good soldiers follow orders." Gamma said.
Zion looked to alpha who had been the closest thing to a father that zion had besides the emperor. "Sorry kid really I am." Alpha said as he readied his spear. Zion drew both his lightsabers and ignited them. "Then let's get this over with." Zion said sending a blast of lightning into a power conduit plunging the room into darkness he cut betas arms and legs off at the knees and elbows before kicking her severed torso at Gamma who batted her away with his mace as he charged at zion who evaded his mace slashing the large man across the back of the legs making crumble to the ground right before taking deltas head off with one swing of his crimson blade and severing gammas with his white blade before looking to alpha.
"I will miss you when your dead." Alpha said. "I was thinking the same thing."  Zion said. Zion unleashed a barrage of lightning fast strikes all of which alpha deflected or blocked with his spear before stabbing at zion who side stepped the thrust and sent a kick at alphas head only for alpha to catch his ankle and throw him against the wall he swung his spear and struck zion across the chest with the shaft of the spear a blow that knocked the air out zion before catching a boot crashing down on to his face before alpha grabbed him by the throat lifting him up.
"I always thought of you as a son I wanted to lift you up to greatness but now all i can do is put you down!" Alpha yelled before choke slamming zion to the deck. Zion unleashed a blast of lightning from his hand that hit alpha causing him to yell out in agony but it also fried all of alphas suits weapons making them useless.
Zion recalled his lightsabers as he got up raining down blow after blow that alpha blocked with his spear only for zion to get past his guard slashing off his right arm at the elbow before kicking him in the head sending him crashing to the deck he then slashed off alphas left leg keeping the older warrior from getting back up.
Zion stood over the defeated alpha both breathing heavily alpha groaned in pain before looking to zion. "Finish it." Alpha ordered. "You don't have to die..." zion said pleadingly. "Do it!" Alpha yelled. "No!" Zion yelled. "Sithsblood boy quit being a kriffing coward and DO IT!" Alpha yelled almost pleadingly. "NO I will not kill you." Zion said. "You have no choice because I will recover and I will not rest until I have killed you!" Alpha yelled. "Why would you out of all of them betray me?" Zion demanded. "All I have done is for the empire." Alpha said. Zion reached into the mans mind and found that he was being influenced by a inhibitor chip forcing him to be loyal to the empire zion didn't know if he could destroy the chip without damaging alphas mind but he wasn't going to leave the man like this he reached out to the chip destroying it with a surge of force energy the shock of it all knocked alpha unconscious. Zion saw his starfighter fly off leaving ziost behind and he was relieved that Mira had made it with little trouble. He went to a terminal and activated the bases self destruct sequence and carried alpha out of the base to the hangar where the hunters shuttle waited.
He set a course for the planet corvus where he took alpha to the home of the magistrate Morgan elsbeth. She looked at alphas wounded and conscious body. "Why bring him here?" Morgan asked. "He trust you your loyal to the empire until I have killed the one who did this to him I want you to protect him so he can heal this is the will of the emperor." Zion said. Morgan nodded her understanding. "Very well I will take care of him." She said. Zion nodded taking the baskar spear from his back and handing it to Morgan as he returned to the shuttle and opened a comm channel to darth sidious whose image appeared in front of him. "The hunters are dead you betrayed me... after all I have done!" Zion yelled. "Watch your tone with me child!" Sidious snapped back before calming. "What you see as a betrayal was merely a test you have given me reason to doubt your resolve as of late but those doubts have been laid to rest." Sidious said. "I know where the jedi are." Zion said. "Good... good work my apprentice you will transmit them to me now." Sidious ordered. "Not yet." Zion said getting a glare from sidious. "I want what I deserve the role that is rightfully mine I have more than earned it or do you still think I am not worthy?" Zion said. The emperor was silent for a long moment but transmitted coordinates to his navigation computer. "Meet me at those coordinates something of such importance need not be done over a holochannel." Sidious said.
Zion checked the coordinates and was shocked at the coordinates the emperor had sent him. "I will be there." Zion said. "I look forward to it my apprentice." Sidious said cutting the channel.
He contacted his starfighter and a miniature image of Mira appeared. "Plans have changed go back to the jedi I will find you once everything is done." Zion said. "What are you going to do?" Mira asked. "End the sith." Zion said cutting the channel.
He started his ship up and took off from the planet entering hyperspace heading to his reunion with a place he rather have left in the past.
