chapter three

Ruusan
Kalan watched the arc170 land in the hidden hangar the canopy opened allowing the two jedi inside to get out. Ty saw kalan and jasmine standing at the entrance and approached him. "I said we would investigate kashyyyk when the time was right." Kalan said. "The time was right." Kalan said. "The time was right." Ty said. "No the time wasnt right that planet is nearly completely under imperial control and over half the imperial fleet was in that system." Came lyrad who wore the uniform of a taris planetary security officer with a brown leather jacket he currently had his lightsaber attached to his belt and  was waiting for his headhunter to be refueled. "The empires agents were after me we barely escaped." Zelan stated. Kalan nodded his understanding. "I am glad you are both unharmed but this place needs to stay secret for the safety of those who seek refuge here." Kalan said. "Which means coordinating our movements and following orders." Lyrad said. "I thought you were under cover?" Ty asked sharply. "I was giving a update to what passes for a council now." Lyrad said. "Well heres a update for you the dark siders i fought weren't the same as the ones that came at us on tatooine." Ty said. "They are called inquisitors they are former jedi that fell to the darkside and are now hunting other jedi across the galaxy." Lyrad explained ty looked at him surprised. "If you followed orders you would have known about them before rushing in blind." Lyrad said. "But they are a threat that needs to be addressed." Kalan said. "So what are we going to do about it?" Ty asked as if eager to be going on another mission. "You will go and train with the other padawans." Kalan said. "I am ready to be knighted." Ty said. "That isnt up to you." Lyrad said sternly. "You are skilled and powerful but you lack self control and patience until you have learned it a padawan you will stay." Kalan stated.
Ty lowered his head clenching his fist and stormed off. "I will talk to him." Jasmine said. "Please do." Kalan said before looking back at lyrad. "What is your idea for the inquisitors?" Kalan asked. "We have to capture one and see what information we can learn and we need to take them alive." Lyrad said. "That is risky." Kalan said. "Yeah but its the only way." Lyrad said. "How would we even do it?" Kalan asked. "They travel with a relatively small contingent of clones a strike team could easily handle that and as for the inquisitors they normally travel in pairs due to limited numbers so all we really need is bait to lure them in." Lyrad said. Kalan gave lyrad a knowing look and lyrad nodded. "I am the best bait we can get." Lyrad said. "Its dangerous." Lyrad said. "Its the best plan we are going to get. I will start laying out the bread crumbs you get the team assembled." Lyrad said. Kalan nodded and watched chad get back to his headhunter starfighter as it was finished refueling he lifted off and flew out of the hangar. Kalan looked to zelan who looked around surprised at what he saw. "How many?" Zelan asked. "Not many but we are steadily growing lets get you settled in." Kalan said guiding him out of the hangar to the village that the jedi had set up once arriving on ruusan far from the nearest settlement. They had hid their jedi robes for traditional villager and farmer cloths keeping their lightsabers out of sight as to not draw attention to themselves from travelers passing through.
Kalan saw master zey and dez talking. "Dez could you show zelan to a dwelling so he can get cleaned up and rested?" Kalan asked. Dez nodded and gestured for zelan to follow her leaving zey and kalan alone. "Lyrad is enacting a plan one that is risky but one we need to back." Kalan said. "And what is this plan?" Zey asked. "Capturing a inquisitor and interrogating them for information on the empire." Kalan said. Zey gestured for kalan to follow him they went into a large cabin that served as the meeting room for the council. "The empire believes the jedi to be practically extinct a plan like this could prove to them that there are more it could risk our very existence." Zey said his words full of caution and worry.  "They already know more jedi are out there ty encountered them when rescuing zelan." Kalan said. "Blast i have told that boy numerous times we must act with patience and caution." Zey said. "I know but lyrad is doing this regardless and if we arent there to back him he could be lost to us." Kalan said. Zey nodded. "Make your strike team and head to taris." Zey said. Kalan nodded turning to leave the room. "And if vader shows up instead of a inquisitor?" Zey asked. "Then he will be destroyed." Kalan said. "You still want vengeance for your sister against vader it eats at you and i can sense it like a fire inside you. Kalan let go of your hate and vengeance only then can you become a jedi master." Zey said. "Then i wont be a master." Kalan said as he walked out of the room.
Taris
Lyrad landed his fighter climbing out of the cockpit and gestured for the hangar crews to get p3e3 his astromech out of its socket. The crews got to work removing the astromech as lenny the head officer of the hangar walked over to him. "Regular treatment refuel and move to her berth?" He asked. "Yeah and go ahead and have your people wash it up for me." Lyrad said reaching into his pocket and drawing out a couple credits lenny caught a glimpse of lyrads lightsaber clipped next to his service side arm but it was only a very brief glimpse as lyrad put the credits in his hands. "Yeah uhm i will get right on that." Lenny said. "Thank you i know i can count on you." Lyrad said as the astromech was brought to ground where it rolled up next him he patted the top of its dome and walked to the exit he lead the driod to a spot between two shelves in the shadows where he took his lightsaber off his belt P3 opened a port and allowed lyrad to store the lightsaber in the driod for safekeeping.
He got to his speeder where p3 used jets in its legs to fly into the astromech slot on his speeder he climbed into the speeder and activated its repulsor lifts flying away from the space fort through the upper level of taris he had been born on taris and had been taken in by the jedi but his weak connection to the force caused him to wash out as a Padawan so when order sixty six occurred he had been spared but in the year since that event he had made contact with kalans jedi faction and was aknowledged for his skills with a lightsaber and his own unique talents with the force and was promoted to the rank of jedi knight now he did all he could to gather as much information about the empire and their plans so that what was left of the order could survive and one day defeat the sith.
He estimated he didnt have long before the inquistors arrived lenny had definitely seen his lightsaber and would certainly report it he was a product of the new regime one of paranoia and blind obedience to the empire he only hoped the others would arrive before the inquistors did.
He got back to his apartment going inside he saw his wife martha cleaning a verpine sniper rifle which she had fully disassembled. "Plans?" He asked. "You told them your plan?" She asked. "I did but your not involved in fact i want you off world before things get too bad." Lyrad said. "I fought in the clone wars i can help you." Martha said.  "No i dont want you in harms way." Lyrad said. "I'm married to a jedi i am pretty sure being in harms way comes with the territory." Martha countered. Lyrad sighed out of frustration and shook his head. "If things get too bad i want you to promise me that you will use the emergency escape tunnels to get away." Lyrad said martha stood up and came over to her husband kissing him on the lips.
During the clone wars martha had been a confederate sharp shooter she hadn't been a fan of clones before order sixty six and liked them even less afterward. She had evaded capture during the mob up operations forging herself a new life that was until lyrad had tracked her down and with their shared displeasure of the empire what had started out as a partnership to get information and take out potential targets evolved into a marriage.
Martha pulled away and looked at the rifle. "I will get that assembled when the time comes activate your homing beacon and i will find a good place to provide you support." Martha said. "I just can't win with you can i?" Lyrad asked as he brushed a brown locke of hair from her face. "You cant win without me." She corrected kissing his hand before going back to the rifle.
Over the next couple weeks kalan arrived with his jedi strike team consisting of ty mira jasmine a large dark skinned man named jorin along with a female trandoshan named kriva who stood at seven feet tall and had dark red eyes she truly looked like a opposing sight even for her species.
Lyrad woke two weeks after he had initially let slip the existence of his lightsaber to lenny he had hoped that the inquistors would make their move fairly quick but the time had given them plenty of time to perpare he had mapped out several routes to the ambush sight which he drove randomly on his way home from work meanwhile martha had been studying the cityscape for good sniping locations when not at school teaching children.
Lyrad got dressed in his regular attire holstering his service blaster in a hip holster he had a feeling about today and knew it would happen today he debated on getting his lightsaber from p3 but the last thing he needed was for a stormtrooper or just a regular imp trooper to search him and find it and try to play hero. He took a breath to steady himself he would be calm and he would be patient he would wait for his moment. Martha came up behind him wrapping her arms around him. "Whats wrong?" She asked. "Its gonna happen today." Lyrad stated. "Are you sure?" She asked he could feel her body tense up and feel concern radiating off her. "I'm sure." Lyrad said. "Then activate your homing beacon i will find you." Martha said kissing the back of his neck he nodded headed out patting p3 on the dome to let the driod know to follow him which it did lifting itself up into the socket on the speeder he got in and headed to the prescent taris planetary security had been majorly down sized to just patrolling the planet since the end of the clone wars the empire had stripped the planet of its defense fleet instead parking a aging venator star destroyer in orbit and calling it protected the officers were allowed to keep their starfighters which was why lyrad still had his z95 headhunter for personal use but the security force itself was just crowd control with no real authority. Lyrad entered the office and went to his desk to start going through his case load only for black armored storm troopers to storm into the building they moved securing all the exits and forced the officers to their knees lyrad ducked into a storage closet before they had seen him and he looked through the window to see two black armored individuals enter the room one wore a black helmet and mask hiding their features while the other wore a white scarf around his neck he had short white hair cut in military style he didn't carry the same circular lightsaber the rest of the inquisitors seemed to carry his lightsaber was more a curved handle with a unique guard that fully protected the users hand. The two inquisitors walked into the room as if they owned the place and in some ways they probably believed they did. "A jedi was spotted on this planet and was identified as a officer in this prescent if he steps forward now we wont have to harm anyone." The white haired man said. "Your too gentle first brother." The second inquisitor said igniting his lightsaber and pointing it at people he went to slash a officer only for the white haired man to stop him mid swing with the force. "I said no second brother." The first brother said.
Lyrad made his way to the back of the office toward the back exit where p3 would be waiting with the speeder he saw a single purge trooper guarding the exit he channeled the force through his body enhancing his speed and strength he bolted for the clone drawing his vibro knife reaching the clone before he could react lyrad stabbed the knife into the clones throat slicing his arties and wind pipe in a single move ending the clones life in a instant he shoved the body out of the way going through the exit door coming face to visor with a second purge trooper lyrad put a hand on the troopers chest piece and focused the force through him and he could see where the armor was weakest in the chest helmet and thighs lyrad punched the trooper in the left chest plate closr to the sternum shattering the plastiod composite plating he then rammed his knife into the clones chest through the clones heart ending his life. He saw a third purge trooper and threw the knife into the mans visors weakpoint sending the blade into the mans eye socket and into his brain ending him. Lyrad ran for the speeder only to hear clapping from behind him he saw the first brother stepping over the corpse of the purge troopers. "Very impressive but not enough." The first brother said igniting his crimson blade lyrad jumped into his speeder without a word as p3 flew off heading into one of the perprogramed routes.
Two armored troop transports pursued him and he could sense the inquistors in the lead transport he drew his comlink from his belt. "Kalan i have the inquistors on my tail on route swamprat." Lyrad reported. "Copy we are waiting." Kalan confirmed.  Lyrad dived down into a service tunnel followed closely by the imperial transports their gunners opened fire on him he used the force to help him manuver through the enemy blaster fire p3 offered him his lightsaber which he accepted he then threw the speeder into reverse going past the first transport igniting his green lightsaber as he went under the second transport he slashed up despite the repulsors of the vehicle pushing down on him his blade sliced through the repulsor coils disabling the second transport sending it crashing into the tunnel wall he extinguished his blade turning his speeder down a connecting tunnel the inquistors followed once they managed to get their bigger and far heavier transport turned around.
The transports gunner fired at him once again with the service tunnel becoming smaller lyrad had less maneuvering room one bolt struck the rear of the speeder destroying his storage compartment a loud rifle crack of a verpine sniper rifle echoed through the tunnel the tungsten round slammed into the head of the purge trooper gunner blowing off half the clones head a second shot rang out and the pilot of the transport was killed causing the troop transport to crash in the lower city getto luckily lyrad had picked this location because it was fairly less populated than the rest of the city lyrad brought his speeder to a stop engaging the parking brake and climbing out of the speeder igniting his lightsaber. "I never engaged my homing beacon." Lyrad said in his ear piece that was connected to his comlink. "I know i did this morning." Came marthas voice.
The transport doors slid open and over a dozen purge troopers emerged weapons raised followed by the first and second brother both ignited their lightsabers. "Very impressive trap but do you truly believe a single sniper can save you?" Asked the second brother. "No but i would feel sorry for you if you did manage to kill me she is a vendictive type." Lyrad said suddenly seven more lightsabers ignited from the shadows as kalan walked out wielding the red lightsaber he had taken from zion. "Surrender now and you will not be harmed." Kalan offered. "You just made us vaders favorite!" The second brother laughed. "Really where is vader?" Kalan demanded. "You'll see him soon enough!" The second brother yelled charging at kalan only for kriva to intercept him bringing her purple blade crashing down on his red blade like a hammer staggering the inquistor backward only for the first brother to come at her from the side stabbing at the trandoshans side she managed to side step the attack only getting a mild burn in the scales on her flank the echani jedi knight jana came at the first brother forcing him to jump backward or get caught between the two jedi the purge troopers began to open fire at the jedi sniper shots cracked out one after another dropping six purge troopers with head shots. "Reloading repositioning." Came marthas report in lyrads ear as he cut down three more clones jorin ran through the purge troopers swinging his double bladed purple lightsaber leaving only a trail of corpses in his wake the two inquistors found themselves out numbered and back to back as the jedi strike team moved in around them. "This doesnt have to be your end just lay down your weapons." Lyrad ordered.
The first brother suddenly dropped two smoke grenades both inquistors attempted to run by splitting up the second brother ignited his second lightsaber blade making it spin at a high speed and jumped into the air allowing him to fly briefly before a verpine round struck the weapon destroying its hilt with the second brothers left hand making him fall and crash to the ground screaming in agony pressing a button on his belt six droids that stood seven feet tall covered in black armor and glowing red photoreceptors they had a humaniod appearances resembling grievious the droids had heavily armored chest and arms with black skeletal hands and fingers the droids emerged from the transport martha fired her rifle again hitting a driod in the head only for the tungsten round to bounce off. "A perfect time to test our new weapons jedi hunter battle driods!" The second brother laughed as the six droids advanced toward the six eight jedi. "Jana lyrad go after the other inquistor we will handle these monstrosities." Kalan yelled. Lyrad and jana nodded as they ran after the first brother the JHBs advanced toward the jedi three of them activating lightsabers built into their hands while the other three armed arm mounted blaster cannons firing at the jedi jorin kriva kalan jasmine and ty all deflected the blaster bolts with their lightsabers even as the other three closed the distance kalan evaded the strikes of the first JH and slashed his blade across its mid section only for it to be leave a black mark and not actually cut into the droid. "Fools these droids are made to kill jedi they are layered with baskar armor!" The second brother laughed only for his head to suddenly explode from another sniper round.
Kalan deflected several lightsaber strikes from the droid that came at him he had to jump away from the droid as it opened a latch where a mouth would be unleashing a blast of flames the droid then switched from its lightsaber blades to blaster cannons firing a stream of crimson bolts that kalan adopted a form three to deflect the blades one of the rear droids fired a rocket from a launcher under its forearm sending the rocket at marthas sniper nest she cursed as she got to move.
Kriva closed the distance between her and one of the JHs unleashing storm of strikes that even kalan had trouble following the droid was sent stumbling backward from the pure force of the blows but her blade couldnt penetrate the droids armor she unleashed a force augmented roar that sent the droid flying off it feet and into a second droid ty flipped past a droids blaster canons and slashed at the driods weapon cleaving off it arm mounted blaster cannon it opened its mouth to use its flame thrower ty used the force to force the droids jaw shut as it unleashed its flames inside its own head which spread throughout its body as flames and smoke bellowed out of the seams of its armor ty jumped backward as the fuel reverses ignited detonating the droid destroying it as it rained down all around them in pieces jorin hammered away at another of the droids cleaving through its arm joints severing its right he only for the droid to send him flying backward with a powerful back hand that sent the large man flying backward crashing to the ground bleeding from his forehead nose and mouth but kalan could still sense the man was alive.
Kriva saw how jorin had aimed for the joints which were still lightsaber resistant but not layered in baskar like the rest of the droids she used the force augment her strength charging she rained down attacks cleaving off the droids arms head and legs a rocket struck the ground next to her sending her flying backward her right arm and right side of her chest and most of her back was smoldering but to kalans surprise she got baack to her feet even as ty mir and jasmine moved to guard her and the wounded jorin.
ty deflected several of another droids strikes each strike as like  getting hit by sledgehammers each blow nearly sent him to his knees he  unleashed a force push to force the droid back jasmine managed to take off  her droids  arm  blaster ducking under a lightsaber strike. "what are we going to do  about these things this is gettting kinda loud we are going to be getting company soon!?" mira demanded before slashing her droid across the photoreceptors blinding the droid.
kalan took a moment to calm himself  before reaching out with the force wrapping his droid in a bubble of force energy and slowly  he shrank the bubble crushing the droid into a ball of metal causing its rockets and flamer fuel  to explode. "they are formittable but they are nothing compared to the force."kalan  said. ty unleashed a powerful blast of  force energy flattening  the remaining droids.
lyrad and jana chased  after the first brother he heard a explosion overhead turning and seeing the  bridge  that  martha had been sniping  from come  crumbling down  in piles of burning slag  he reached  out with the force for his wife and felt her presence still strong and alive if not burning with reseentment toward the droid  that nearly killed her he spotted holding onto  a durasteel beam  pulling herself back  up. relieve flooded  him as he saw  her alive which  gave him the resolve to continue the chase  he followed after jana  as she and the first  brother went into a  industril  plant he stopped running and faced the two jedi igniting his crimson  blade and assuming a form two stance.
"finally done running?" jana asked breathing heavily from the  chase.  "i wasn't running merelymaking your numbers  more managible." the first brother said as  lyrad  arrived. "it wont matter the others will catch up soon." jana said readying for the fight to begin. "you were a jedi once right why would you do  this?" lyrad  demanded.  "the empire can not be beaten and the order destroyed itself long before the sith pulled their ploy we abandoned  our princples out of convenience accepting  slave army at least the  seperatist used droids while we sent living breathing sentient  beings to their deaths in mass can you truly stand in front of me and say  we didnt deserve the retribution that came to  us!? the first brother yelled. "the galaxy was tearing itself apart we had to do something!" jana yelled. "no we didn't the jedi were  suppose  to place the force over all  things not become part of the miltary. the sith destroyed our numbers but we destroyed the jedi order ourselves!"  the first brother yelled. "so  joining them is the answer!" lyrad demanded.  the first brother took breath and got ready  to attack. "i  withstood months of  torture to make them believe they broke me and when the time is  right i will destroy the sith s they did with us i will destroy them and their empire from within!" the first brother stated before charging at the two jedi  with a  powerful thrust that jana deflected to the side only for the male echani to spin around catching her in the back of the head with a powerful  kick that sent her crashing to the ground he slashed down to try and take her head only for lyrad to catch his blade on his own shoving it away and sending a flurry of power strikes at the first brother trying to knock his weapon from his hand instead the first brother expertly redirected his attacks while backpeddling away from jana who rubbed her head as  she slowly recovered from the blow.
lyrad kept switching from form four to form five from quick flurries to power strikes trying to keep the  first brother on the retreat while also trying to over power him with brute force he  sent a  kick into the inquistors  gut sending him sliding backward where he lowered  into  a crouch sweating heavily while lyrad seemed tobe ready to go another round. "impressive you use the force to sustain you in battle but you  do it on a different  level than almost  aany other jedi perhaps even at the level of master yoda." the  first brother  said. "my connection to the force wont allow to use telekensis or similar powers so i had to come up with other ways to use it." lyrad said.  the first brother stood up ready for another round. "chad... my name was chad." the first brother said. "it still can be." lyrad said. the first brother came at lyrad with a fast downward slash one that lyrad was able to deflect only for th  first brothers fist to smash into his jaw staggering  him backward and filling his mouth with the iron taste of blood.
The first brother followed up with a thrust at lyrads side as he was still stumbling backward from the punch lyrad fumbled a side step feeling the crimson blade graze along his back instead of running him through but the sudden change in direction caused him to fall and by going with the fall instead of trying to correct himself he managed to fall into a roll feeling the searing wound on his back press against the cold duracrete ground making him wince in pain but he got back to his feet just to clash blades with the first brother the two kept their blades locked together nether giving up the grapple as they tried to push one another back when suddenly the first brother deactivated his saber making lyrad stumbled forward as the first brother stepped aside to dodge his incoming blade and ignite his own which would have gone straight into lyrads gut if not for jana using the force to yank him out of the way and jump back into the fight with a flurry of strikes that the first brother struggled to deflect as she moved with such speed and grace every attack was flawless leaving no openings for the first brother to counter or parry all he could do was backpedal and keep from getting carved to pieces but he knew that jana wouldnt be able to keep up the pace she was drawing heavily on the force but she was already showing signs of fatigue getting the better of her she slashed down at him with a savage downward strike which he managed to block his knees nearly buckling from the blow jana smirked deactivating her lightsaber and dropping down sending a jab into the first brothers throat sending him staggering back unable to breath from the strike to his trachea being damaged from the throat punch she followed the blow up with a kick to his gut and finally a kick directly between the eyes sending the first brother crumbling to the ground bleeding from his broken nose.
He slashed at her blindly making her backflip out of the way he got to his feet and seeing a man in a black tunic black pants with short black hair and holding a crimson lightsaber and recoginized him as the leader of the jedi. He charged at the man slashing wildly only for him to deflect his strike effortless catching his blade with the force keeping his blade at bay and jabbing him in the chest with the pommel of his lightsaber with such force it sent him crashing to the ground as the world went black for him.
Kalan extinguished his lightsaber and looked to lyrad and jana. "Are you two okay?" Kalan asked. "Yeah just a few cuts and bruises." Lyrad groaned. "Sorry i was late a few of the team members were hurt by the group of droids they brought." Kalan said. "Was anyone killed?" Jana asked. "Martha?" Lyrad asked. "No one was killed jorin took a bad hit to the head but he will pull through kriva as third degree burns on thrity percent of her body and martha is fine she left to clean out your apartment and will meet us back home." Kalan said putting both their worries at ease.
Lyrad approached the first brother putting a hand on the mans chest and could immediately know all the mans injuries even the signs of the mans brutal torture at the hands of the imperials but what he was after was the small homing device that was in the mans back. "Anyone have a knife i misplaced mine in a stormtroopers eye?" Lyrad asked. Kalan drew his which lyrad accepted cutting through the first brothers shirt and into his flesh he carefully removed the tracking device throwing it away he picked up the mans lightsaber and immediately knew everything about the weapon and was able to locate the second tracking device in the weapon which he removed before clipping it to his belt next to his own. Ty arrived and saw the fight was already over. "Get him back to the ship we need to hurry before the imperials lock down the planet." Kalan said. Ty nodded and grabbed the inquistor by the shoulders dragging him to their speeder.
