I think I have to wreck another one of his favorite cars, Hermione thought, already planning the details in her mind. Sitting by the pool, she dangled her legs in the cool water while Ethan swam happily around. The two had been on the terrace for about two hours, enjoying the evening breeze.

Ethan had wanted to go swimming, and despite her initial "no," Hermione gave in to his pleading eyes, making the little boy jump with joy.

Hermione sat quietly with her thoughts. It had been a week since her last stunt—hiding the important treaty papers—and Nedvar had been distant ever since.

He no longer gave her long, lingering kisses on the forehead. Now, he only gave her a quick peck after breakfast, and only when all the family members were around. He'd stopped visiting her room after midnight to kiss her goodnight, though he used to think she was asleep. But the sound of the door opening would always wake her.

She missed the affection, the dimpled smiles he used to give her, the way his eyes softened with love as he watched her, and how attentively he listened whenever she spoke.

Hermione wanted to feel relieved that he wasn't as touchy or affectionate lately, yet she realized she'd grown attached to those small gestures. Nedvar was the first man who had been so close to her, who dared to push her buttons and yet respected her deeply.

She knew it was her mistake, but she had wanted to see how he would react. People revealed their truest selves in anger, but Nedvar had controlled his. He had understood her situation before calling her irresponsible, never once questioning her choices.

Hermione heard footsteps approaching from behind. Assuming it was a guard or maid, she stayed lost in thought. But Ethan's excited voice snapped her back to reality.

"Dada, join me!" Ethan called, his face lighting up at the sight of Nedvar. Hermione's eyes shifted to the tall man, and instantly she had the urge to knock his head against something hard.

"Next time, baby," Nedvar replied, giving Ethan a kiss on the forehead and cheeks, making him giggle. Ethan swam off to the other side of the pool, and Nedvar leaned down to Hermione.

"Hey, Mia," he murmured, giving her a brief peck on the forehead, his familiar scent of spice and rum filling her senses.

He didn't look at her for more than a few seconds before standing up and walking past her. Without looking at him, Hermione spoke. "After you freshen up, meet me in your home office." Her tone was cool, leaving him no choice but to comply.
