Hermione hurried out of the room, her heart pounding in her chest. She nearly ran into Sam, who was standing in the hallway with a bleeding hand, a result of ripping out his IV. His face was pale, eyes wild with a mixture of panic, desperation, and something else— guilt and vulnerability.
"Sam! You're hurt!" Hermione's voice shook, both from panic and worry.
Sam said nothing, his breathing ragged. He looked as if the weight of the world was bearing down on him. She forwards her arm towards the couch direction in the front, silently ordering him to sit his ass down. Sam does not comply, "Sit down," she urged, her voice firm but caring. "Steve! Get the first aid kit" she called out.
Steve gave a quick nod and rushed to fetch the supplies. As Hermione sat beside with some safe distance, her hands instinctively brushed over his injury. She could feel stress radiating from him, his body shaking slightly.
"Sam, what happened?" Hermione asked, her voice softer now, concerned.
He looked at her, his eyes a storm of fear anger. The same expression she had witnessed when he had informed her about his father's health deteriorating, now the same expression she saw the second time. And the only expression she saw in his eyes and face.
"Aurora's missing," he began, voice low but trembling. "I saw guns... goons... they took her. I tried to stop them but—" his voice cracked, and he ran a hand through his hair, frustrated and guilt-ridden. "I... I couldn't do anything."
Hermione's stomach twisted at his words. The thought of her bestie like sister Aurora in danger sent a cold wave of dread through her. She tried to keep her voice steady, though she felt her own fear rising.
Before she could respond, Steve returned with the first aid kit, interrupting them. "Queen, where's Capo? He'll need to know about this," Steve asked, as he handed her the kit.
Hermione blinked, then her face fell. "I don't know where your Capo is. He was here few hours."
Steve frowned, his brow furrowing in confusion. "But if Capo left through the front, I would have seen him. I've been standing watch at the end of the hall... all night."
That unsettled her even more. Hermione stood up, determination flashing across her face. "I'll check the room again," she said, rushing back inside their bedroom. She grabbed her phone and quickly dialed Nedvar's number. It went straight to voicemail, the automated message adding to her frustration.
She groaned in frustration, tossing her phone onto the bed, tying her hair back in quick bun. Her thoughts raced. She couldn't waste time— Aurora's life could be in danger. She dialed Sienna, Nedvar's younger sister, so she could come over and be with Ethan.
She fetched her sling bag from the closet, putting in some necessary things, and the small plushie like thing, that is a must to carry wherever she goes.
