He knocked on the door and we heard a hoarse voice say, "Come in."
I couldn't move. I was afraid of what I'd see. I've never really seen a sick person since my Grandma died. So, this is kind of hard for me to do.
Johnny grabbed my hand to pull me into the room, "Don't worry. She'll love you."
I nodded and proceeded through the threshold to enter the dimly lit room.
"Ma?" Johnny called out.
We walked further to see a woman about forty or so, lying in a bed hooked up to countless cords and IVs. Not to mention something on the side pumping so she could keep her shallow breathing at a normal place.
"Fuck Ma." John felt so bad that he had to see his mom like that. I could tell. That's exactly how I would look if Mama Brooke was in this position.
"No cussing, Johnny." His Mom shallowly said to him.
He smiled, "Sorry." Johnny pulled me over to the side of the bed with him so his mother could see more
clearly."Ma, this is Y/N. My girlfriend."
His Mom raised her brow, "And you both escaped the rehab? Jesus, they suck at doing their jobs."
Johnny chuckled, "Great energy, Ma. I dunno if you recognize this girl but you know her Mom."
"Is this Chelsea's girl?" She asked losing her breath.
He shook his head, "No. Ally Brooke Hernandez is her Mom."
She smiled, "That's nice. I remember when Ally had you. It was around the time I had Johnny and Josh. I never thought you'd all meet though."
"If anything, Mom wanted to be friends with Ally." He teased.
His mother nodded painfully, "That's true. Well, it's nice to meet you, Y/N. But you both need to go back to the facility before they give you another warning. Remember last time, Johnny? You got
your gym taken away. I know you love that."Johnny shook his head, "They can wait, Mom. How are you feeling?"
The machines made loud noises as she took each short breath, "I'm still here."
"That's good." He smirked paying attention to her and only her.
I saw the way he admired and loved her. I saw the way he looked at her. Like he wanted to do something about this but he didn't have the power to do it. He just had to sit back and watch.
"Johnny, I need to tell you this and I want you to say the same thing to Josh and Brook. You understand me?" She looked up at the boy
hovering over her."Mom-please. You're-"
"Listen to me. I loved all three of y'all and I'm sorry it had to come to this." He reached out and grabbed her hand to softly caress the top of it. "I'm not going anywhere. I'm merely watching you from a distance when I'm gone. You have to remember that and make good decisions. I don't wanna see you up there before your time. Okay?"
"Mom, you're gonna be okay-"
"Johnny, I'm tired." She explained roughly. I could hear how hard it was for her to talk. "Just promise me you'll do better. Promise me."
He nodded and a tear dropped out of his eye, "I promise."
"Good. Now. Go on-" She breathed out harshly.
"Mom?!" Johnny replied startled.
She closed her eyes and began to shallow her breathing even more while the heart monitor began picking up on the speed to get closer to a flat line.
