The next day,
2:00 p.m.
It's the moment we've been waiting for, D-Day. After today, our lives are going to change drastically. We can't afford to make any mistakes, everything needs to go as planned. Today, Marcus will cease to exist for good. It may sound awful but that's what he deserves, and he had it coming. At least 3/4 of the people know what we are doing. The ones taking Cole's side won't be at this bunker today.
We park in front of the bunker, close to the entry and we all get out of the car. We know perfectly well that this isn't a mission like any other, the stakes of this one have a direct impact on the rest of our lives. Everything needs to be perfect.
Cole is looking straight ahead without blinking. A few minutes pass before he dares to open his door, and then we do the same and get out of the car. We follow him like a pack with their alpha, and soon that'll be the case. No one's saying a word, probably too occupied thinking about what's going to happen. The calm before the storm as they say. I give a quick look around me, meeting Cole's eyes as I keep on walking towards the bunker.
"As we discussed yesterday, I'll go with Enzo, and you guys on your own. When you arrive at the office the job should be done," Cole says.
Even though we're ready to do this mission, we're all a little nervous about accomplishing it. We're literally staging a coup against our own Boss, who would've thought that?
"We'll meet again, my friends," Lucas says, clearly emotional.
We all look into each other's eyes, capturing or " maybe" last moment together. I know we'll probably be able to succeed, but we never know what can happen. Might as take two minutes to say goodbye. A new beginning awaits us after today, we just need to get through this day. Lucas and I go by the back of the bunker, while Cole and Enzo are going by the front door. Kyle is waiting a couple of minutes before going the same way as them. It's officially starting, and I'm realizing the magnitude of what we're about to do.
"It will be alright," Lucas says.
"You don't know that, Lucas. Let's do the job and put an end to it. " I say.
He doesn't answer and starts unlocking the door, more precisely, smashing the lock. We enter quietly and head towards the office. There are a few corridors to go through before getting there and I feel it won't be an easy journey.
"There's someone at the end, be careful," Lucas says.
I stay along the wall and try to catch a glimpse of the person. Once in sight, I take out a knife and throw it straight between his eyes. Despite not having trained as much lately, I haven't lost my touch. I take back my knife and we continue our way to the office. We're almost at the door, at the corner of my eye I can see another man not far from us. I'm about to kill him too, but his voice stops me in my tracks.
"It's me, don't shoot!" he says.
"Steven? What are you doing here? You're supposed to be with Marcus!" Lucas says.
"I had to go do something, I was on my way there just now."
"No, it's too late, you have time to go there. Cole must already be there or close."
"Where are everyone?" I ask.
"Most of the people have left. I gave them a mission and by the time it's done, we'll be finished with ours." He adds.
Well done. I can see that he keeps his word, but I don't fully trust him yet. I don't know him well enough, and he needs to prove himself before I trust him with anything. While we're talking, someone walks by in the hallway and spots us.
