"Sit, sit!" She laughs gesturing to the couch, I simply nod before taking my seat again. "So the reason I wanted to talk to you was about that mind of yours!" Her eyes light up as she looks at me, she then quickly scans her desk again, "There it is! Don't you just hate it when the things you are looking for are right in front of your face and you just can't seem to find it no matter how hard you look!" She mutters before pulling out a book from under a pile of papers. "Ignore my mess, or as I prefer to call it organised chaos!" She hums before flipping through the pages. "Ah! Here it is, come look at this!" She instructs me to join her on her side of the desk. I quickly get up walking around the desk to look over her shoulder at the book. I scan over the page reading the words as I do, most of it I understand but some are scientific terms I haven't heard of before.
"What do you understand from this piece of text Miss Whitlock?" Hange asks as I reach the end of the page, I look back at her for a moment before replying.
"Well, this scientist is implying that it is possible for some people to have the ability to remember things even once they are long gone, such as texts or experiences or even musical pieces. He states that those with this... photographic memory?" I continue unsure, "Are able to remember things better than those without it. They can recall these things and experience them as if in real time or as if they were actually looking at the text in front of them?" I finish my statement still unsure if I am correct. However, Hange eagerly nods her head looking up at me.
"That is exactly it, Zariya! And I have come to believe that you have one of these~" She puts the book down gesturing to the page "well a photographic memory!" She exclaimed excitedly.
"Right, you said that earlier this week but didn't elaborate." I laugh looking at her.
"Well think about it, when you read things you retain the information better than anyone I have seen before and your memory, well it is perfect! Like you said when Rosette was falsely accused of being the Female titan, you could see the memory in your head. Not everyone can do that Miss Whitlock." She explains watching me with excitement filled in her eyes.
"But- How? Isn't it extremely rare?" I ask in disbelief.
"It is, that is why you are the first person I have ever come across with the ability to remember things the way you do! And I talk with a lot of people." She responds, "I do not expect this to all make sense right now, I understand this information is quite overwhelming. That's one of the perks of you joining my squad, now we will have all the time in the world to fully understand how your mind works!" She remarks enthusiastically.
"Okay~" I hesitate, nodding my head.
"Don't be worried Zariya, this is a very exciting discovery, well it will be if my hypothesis is correct! I have already drafted some experiments we can do to test it! But we don't have to worry about that right now." Hange mentions as she notices my uneasiness.
A knock at the door catches my attention, taking my mind off this new information even if it is just for a moment.
"Come in!" Hange calls, closing the book. Armin suddenly appears in the doorway peering at us as he pops his head in.
"Zariya!" He exclaims with wide eyes as he sees me. Suddenly my stomach is filled with butterflies as he says my name.
"Ah, hey Armin." I smile quietly.
"Arlert! what brings you here?" Hange asks chipperly while standing up. Armin slips in through the doorway closing it behind him but staying at the entrance.
"Captain Levi has asked for you, he says it's an urgent matter that he wishes to discuss with you as soon as possible." He mumbles while still looking at me. I smile again before looking away, not sure how to get rid of the feeling in my stomach.
