it was just after one in the afternoon and i lay on my stomach, practically melting into the pool chair underneath me.
we were having record heat in los angeles, making it impossible to do anything or go anywhere without wanting to strip down and take an ice bath.
laying out tanning was probably not the best idea, but what else was i going to do three days before the fourth of july?
my phone buzzed from under my chair and i shifted so i could view it in the shade. it was a text from francie.
i laughed at her response.
she was right. more views never hurt anyone. and considering it was too hot to do anything too creative, meeting up with someone new was definitely the right way to go.
i looked at the time again, noting i had 20 more minutes laying on my stomach before i could go back up to my apartment.
i settled in, closing my eyes and letting myself drift off as i melted under the sun.

it was 2:26, time to leave for francie's.
i was nervous, considering that i had never even met tara nor had i taken the time to stalk any of her social media before leaving.
i thought about it the whole drive. she had to be cool, if francie liked her. and she must've known james somehow if she had been at his party.
she was probably super nice. and i was probably super nervous for no reason.
the drive to francie's seemed to take no time at all, which could've been good or bad, but considering that my heart was beating against my ears as i parked, i wished francie had lived in sacramento.
i made my way up to her apartment, realizing that i was five minutes late and that the short drive had not actually been that short.
i knocked on the door which was answered by a muffled "it's unlocked!" that i recognized as francie's voice.
i turned the knob, pushing the door open.
inside, sitting at her kitchenette was the prettiest and most petite black haired girl i had ever seen.
"adge!" francie smiled brightly as she turned around. "this is tara! tara, adrienne. adrienne, tara."
"hi." i smiled, stepping in and closing the door.
"hi!" tara said brightly. "so nice to meet you! i knew i'd love you from the moment francie started talking about you."
i laughed softly.
"wow franc, didn't know you talked that highly of me." i said.
"shut up," francie rolled her eyes. "anyway so i was thinking of doing a dollar store taste test?"
