MACKENZIE'S EYES NARROWED AT the person that had just insulted her. "who the hell are you to call me a kid?"
the man opened his mouth to speak, but lucy joined them and spoke first. "i see you've finally met tim."
mack scoffed, arms going across her chest. "this is officer douchebag?"
"excuse me?" tim tilted his head. "who the hell are you?"
"this is mack." lucy smiled. "she's your date for tomorrow night."
"what?" tim looked the blonde up and down. "chen, she looks like a baby!"
lucy waved him off, "she's twenty-six!"
"still a kid." he shook his head.
mack rolled her eyes, "relax grandpa," she tilted her head with a smirk on her lips, taking a step closer to the man. "I could do much better anyway."
tim looked down at her, sticking his chest out to seem more intimidating. "is that so?"
lucy smiled as she pulled out her phone, watching the two stare at each other. "i'll set it up."
both mack and tim look at the girl, "what?"
lucy held up a finger as she put the phone to her ear. "hello, can i have a reservation for two tomorrow night at—"" she paused looking at mack. "you get off at six tomorrow, right?" mack only nodded, "eight o'clock please?" after a moment smiled. "thank you so much. you can put it under bradford." a few more words were exchanged before she hung up the phone. "you guys are set for tomorrow night at eight. i'll text you both the address."
"this is ridiculous, boot. do you see how young she is?"
mack retorted, "do you see how old you are?"
tim looked at the girl and his eyes wandering up and down her body before he licked his lips. "fine, but if you're not there by 8:01 i'm leaving."
mack flashed a fake smile, "sounds like a deal."
there was a small silence as the two stared at each other before tim spoke again. "did you just call me "officer douchebag"?" he looked from mack to lucy.
"not my nickname for you," lucy put her hands up in surrender. "i swear."
"right." tim mumbled before glancing back at mack. "'i'll see you tomorrow then, i guess." he looked at lucy one more time and shook his head. "you're gonna make this an easy win for me, boot."
lucy simply smiled and crossed her arms over her chest. tim headed off in whatever direction he had been intending to go in, leaving the two girls by themselves. when he was no longer in view, lucy gently grabbed mack's arm. "all you need to do is make it the best date he's ever had and have him begging for more." she paused. "and i promise you don't have to sleep with him."
"it'll be fine." mack smiled. "i'll be the sweetest thing he's ever seen and he'll be thinking about me for days." lucy nodded with a smile and hugged the girl, thanking her. "don't you have paperwork to finish filling out?"
the brunette's eyes widened. "yes! i'll be right back. we're leaving in five!"
the blonde shook her head at her best friend and watched her run off in another direction with a small smile on her face. she looked around the busy station once more before making her way back towards the entrance where people waiting to be helped normally sat. she played on her phone for a few minutes before being met by lucy again. the two headed back in the direction of mack's apartment for the remainder of the evening.
EVERY ONCE IN A while, mackenzie would wake up to her brother blasting some song that made her want to rip her hair out. that next morning was one of those mornings. she let out a loud groan before putting her pillow over her face. she laid there for only a few moments more before grabbing her phone from its charger to see what time it was. her eyes widened as she quickly threw the covers off her body and rushed over to her dresser to get dressed.
"leo"!" she shouted, trying to be louder than his awful music. she shimmied her way into her jeans and pulled a clean work shirt over her head. "leo!" she shouted once again.
her bedroom door swung open and her brother stood there with half a piece of toast in his hand and the other half hanging out of his mouth. "what?"
"can you please turn that shit down? it's dreadful."
leo just chomped on his toast, "why are you still here? the cafe literally opens in like four minutes. i thought you left."
"my alarm never went off." mack mumbled as she slipped her socks and shoes on. "josie is there and she'll open for me. i'll only be a few minutes late." she shoved her phone in her back pocket before brushing past leo, bumping his shoulder in the process.
"love you too, sis! have a great day!" leo spoke sarcastically as the girl headed for the door after fetching her purse and car keys. "and good luck on your date tonight! knock him dead, mack!"
the blonde girl whipped her head back to look at her brother. "i have a feeling that i'm gonna need all the luck i can get with this one." she offered him a smile before closing the door, heading off to work, shooting josie a text letting her know she would be a few minutes late.
she had already picked out her outfit for that evening and was still debating in her head on which shoes she wanted to wear. it wasn't something she should've really cared about at all, but for some reason she did and she wasn't sure why. however, the girl was pretty confident. tim bradford was definitely in for the best night of his life.
sorry for the wait and short chapter ,,, work is KICKING my ass ;(
