Chapter 20
Coke
"Sophia," I say, knocking on her door. "Could I talk to you?"
I am standing outside Sophia's house, waiting for her answer. Grace, Thomas, and Bright are all standing behind a wall of Sophia's house. We devised a plan to find the Coke can yesterday. Hopefully all will be okay.
"OOOH! COLEY, I'M COMING!" Stuffy's obnoxious voice sounds from inside and hasty footsteps approach the door.
I wrinkle my nose at the annoying nickname. Grace and Thomas are snickering softly. Bright pretends to puke, putting a finger in her mouth and crossing her eyes. I grin at her. She stops immediately and looks away.
I sigh. When is she ever going to be nice to me again?
The door opens, and Sophia emerges, batting her eyes and twirling her hair. Gross.
"Yeah, uh, hi," I say, rolling my eyes inwardly. "I need to ask you something."
"Yessss?"
Grace, Thomas, and Bright are listening from behind the wall. I cough, which is my signal for them to sneak into the house. They quietly edge their way to the window and climb through it.
"Do you have like, I don't know, a Coke can or something?" It sounds ridiculous and I know it.
"It's all in the trash, duh," Sophia says, still giggling like an idiot.
"Like, an antique?"
"You know what?" Sophia nears me, puckering her lips. "Let's just, say, make out?"
"Um..." I trail off. Ew, I almost say. "You want to take a walk down the, uh, sidewalk?" I have to keep her away from her house until they give me the signal.
"Ooooh, romantic," Sophia sighs dreamily.
How thick can you get? I think to myself, and I lead her down the sidewalk, hoping Grace, Bright, and Thomas find what I'm looking for. Quickly.

Bright
"You want to kill him?" Thomas whispers to no one in particular as we sneak into Stuffy's living room.
"Kill who?" Grace asks, opening a shiny cabinet to check what's inside. "Nope, just pillow cases in here."
"The Coca Cola, I-Need-Your-Help guy," he says. "He drags us in this filthy rich dump to find a Coke can?" He shakes his head. "He has some issues. He's my best friend. But he has some issues."
