You know what time it is! Time for another super late post from me!! Enjoy!
"Um, where are we going?" Cathryn asked, embarrassed when her voice cracked from all the strain it had been under less than an hour before. The pink tint on her cheeks was also from the way Sam had wrapped his arms around her to keep her steady. She could still feel the remnants of his warmth on her skin as she sat in the passenger seat of his car. The white truck was much cleaner than her minivan.
"Somewhere less stressful before I take you home," he said quickly, his eyes never straying from the road.
"Which is?" When he didn't reply, Cathryn huffed and stared out her window as they passed small shops and people on early morning runs. With her luck, Sam was probably secretly a serial killer and was driving off into the middle of nowhere to kill—Cathryn refused to finish the thought. If she started coming up with ideas like that, soon she was going to sound like Markus.
"Here," Sam announced a minute later. They were parked in front of an old diner that had been in the town probably since its founding. Cathryn eyed him incredulously.
"Why here?"
"Because I'm sure you haven't had breakfast and it's cheap," he shrugged, a small smile playing at Sam's lips. Cathryn rolled her eyes.
"But why would you bring me here?"
"Look," Sam said, shaking his head with a sigh, "you seem a bit freaked out, so I thought we could just talk or something. If you really don't want a free meal, I'll take you home right now."
Cathryn could feel one eyebrow raise as she stared into Sam's sincere face. After a long pause, she finally relented and muttered, "Fine."
His smile returned. "Good, because just sitting here has made me hungry again." He left the truck and ran around to help her walk towards the diner. Inside, the place was lit by a warm glow and filled with the mouthwatering scent of fluffy pancakes. Cathryn's heart couldn't help but yearn to work somewhere like the diner instead of at Fazbear's. The environment was so much more peaceful, and there was less of a chance of being murdered by crazy robots!
Cathryn couldn't help but smile to herself. She'd never thought she would think something like that in her life. Maybe Fazbear's really was making her go a little insane.
They were quickly led to a table, and when the time came to order, Cathryn couldn't help but get the pancakes. The aroma was too addicting for her to resist. Sam ordered the same, and when the cakes finally arrived, they were topped with melting butter that had soaked into the doughy skin of her meal.
The syrup was rich—a little sweet for her taste—but it paired nicely with the large glass of orange juice, and the crisp hash browns and sausages on the side of her plate.
One moment the plate in front of her had been stacked with food, and the next, Cathryn had inhaled every bite. With her stomach full, a sense of peace that she'd dearly missed all morning finally overwhelmed her. She was sad when Sam made the feeling fade.
"Cathryn, could you tell me how you got so hurt?"
The orange juice she'd been in the process of swallowing turned bitter in her mouth and attempted to choke her. She forced the vile liquid down. "I'm sure you can guess." Her eyes stared down at the table.
Maybe it would be fine to tell him everything? Cathryn knew it was dumb to assume Freddy would know if she told someone...but a sense of fear still kept the words from leaving her mouth. "And if I'm being honest, I don't think I feel good talking about it."
"Okay, I understand. But...are you finally going to quit?"
Cathryn really, really wanted to say yes. The idea of being free from Fazbear's made her heart beat with exhilaration and brought tears of relief to her eyes, but she blinked them back. "No."
