Guuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuys!!!! I actually posted on time for once! YAY! Okay back to the story now ;)
Cathryn stared at the locked glass doors in front of her, the sound of Uncle Brandon's car retreating in the air. He'd had to drop her off for work again. Even if Mrs. Betty had taken over part of her morning shift, her mom really needed to learn how to accept more help.
Cathryn couldn't help but smile at the irony. Maybe she was her mother's daughter, but at least she'd gotten some help from Markus.
Even after he'd had to leave her house, Cathryn had continued to research all she could about programming robots, or more specifically: Fixing creepy old animatronics that seem like they want to kill you. It'd taken a lot of work to find information online, but thankfully, some of it had seemed helpful.
A few printed articles sat in Cathryn's beach bag today, as well as her usual supplies. With it slung over her arm, she was ready for her third day on the job. The only problem was the job wasn't ready for her. Sam had locked her outside.
Cathryn huffed angrily, her arms crossed, as the sunset faded from the sky. Uncle Brandon had left before she'd realized she was locked out, so despite Sam's attempts, it wasn't like Cathryn could really leave. No way was she walking home this late!
She hesitated before pressing her face up against the glass doors, making sure to stand on her tiptoes so she could be far away from the greasy, child-like fingerprints covering the bottom half of the door. Her eyes scanned what little she could see of the dark interior. Was Sam really still inside?
Uncle Brandon had picked her up earlier than usual, so she knew she had a few minutes before her shift truly started, but was that enough time to convince Sam to get out? Cathryn also knew there was a big hole in her plan: First, she had to get inside the locked building.
She resorted to violence.
"Sam!" she hollered, pounding her fist on the door. She tried not to think about the embarrassing way her voice cracked. "Open the door! It's my shift, not yours." Silence. After trying a few more times, Cathryn was about to give up.
Then angry green eyes, followed by the irritated face of Sam, emerged from the darkness of the restaurant. He was glaring at her. "Go home!"
"I can't! My uncle already left, and I don't have a car!" She could see him muttering under his breath but couldn't hear his irritated comments. Cathryn only waited until Sam gave a relenting sigh, his keys jingling as he removed them from his pocket.
"I'm going to drive you home," he instructed firmly through the glass, hesitating to open the door. "If you hurry up, I'll make it back before the night shift starts and no one will be harmed."
Cathryn eyed the soon-to-be-unlocked door for a moment, wondering if she would be able to overpower Sam and shove the door open. She was doubtful. Her tired body was probably too weak for such a feat.
"Okay," she agreed pathetically, her mind struggling to form a new plan as night fell. She only had a handful of minutes – 10, maybe 15 at most – before her shift would begin. Her eyes reconnected with Sam's, and she could see the doubt shadowing his face.
"You have to promise that you'll let me come outside and take you home, or else I won't open the door," he said slowly.
Really? She scoffed, pausing to see if he would laugh and insist it was a joke.
Sam's serious expression remained.
"Ugh, fine!" Cathryn groaned, throwing up her arms, defeated. She took a few steps back from the door just to encourage him.
