By "I post like once a week", obviously I meant I post almost every other week. I know, the schedule has gotten a little messed up. I haven't changed what it says yet, however, because I'd like to believe that one day, I'll learn how to post on time ;)

Without further ado, CHAPTER 9:

"KittyCat? You there?" Cathryn flailed, struggling to free the walkie from her hoodie pocket.

"Markus!" she screamed into it. "What is wrong with you?"

"Shh! I'm sorry, I'm sorry," he whispered through the crackle of the device. Her hands were shaking, and her thighs were sore from her muscles clenching too tightly.

"I am all alone at Freddy's! You can't just call me out of the blue."

"Wait, you're already at the restaurant? Didn't you just get hired?" Cathryn rolled her eyes with a sigh, but Markus couldn't see her.

"They said I could start work tonight. Maybe if you'd listened to me earlier, you would've known."

"I'm sorry, Cat. My parents were around, and I didn't want to get in trouble. They would've taken my walkie away..." Cathryn exhaled loud enough that she couldn't hear the rest of his excuse. The only thing she took away from his message was that she was lucky enough to get to talk to him through the walkie. She could have been left all alone; now at least she had Markus' voice with her for a while. "So, how's it going so far?"

"What?"

"Your shift, how is it going?" Cathryn glanced around the empty room, bothered by the fact that her computer was the main light source. There were a few weak, flat bulbs scattered around the restaurant – she'd seen them high up on the walls while walking around with Sam – but they didn't give off much light.

"Boring so far. Do you think they'd mind if I look through all these papers on the desk? There are hundreds of them, and I really don't want to start the night off with a puzzle."

"They have puzzles there for you?"

"No," she laughed, "I brought a puzzle with me. I brought some other stuff, too, but I think the only useful things I have are my snacks. It's not even light enough to read here."

"What, did they turn off all the lights?" Markus joked.

"Pretty much, besides a couple of dull light bulbs and a computer screen. Sam said all I have to do is watch the cameras...why does this job pay so well if I don't have to do anything?"

"Who's Sam?"

"One of the other employees, he's kind of weird." 'Weird' was an understatement; the guy almost freaked her out as much as the restaurant. Not only had he left her alone without any proper instructions, but he'd expected her to not show up at all for no reason.

"So, all you do is watch cameras all night?"

"Until 6 am. Are you planning on going to sleep?"

"Not unless you want me to. I figured I'd stay up and keep you company on your first day." Markus was the best. The idea of hearing him talk all night sent a wave of peace over her, making her smile.

"You're awesome, Markus."

"Thanks," he said, the embarrassed tone in his voice evident. He got like that whenever anyone complimented him, even if they were being sarcastic! Cathryn opened her mouth to say something else when she heard a weird thump. For a moment, she thought she imagined the noise and strained her ears as she listened for the sound.
