She'd pushed away everyone who knew about her situation and had tried to keep her safe, and now? Cathryn was going to die alone at the hands of beloved children's mascots. She closed her eyes – her throat too sore to scream anymore – almost as a way to welcome her death.
She whimpered quietly, her arms squeezing her tight as if to try and hold her together. Familiar, loud robotic clicks filled the air, and Cathryn clenched her teeth. She forced her eyes to stay shut and pressed her back aggressively against the wall in an effort to hide in plain sight.
She was 100% sure the tactic wasn't working.
She could hear her palpitating heart as the stench of Freddy Fazbear overwhelmed her senses. Against her will, her eyelids raised just a crack. The evil bear's blue eyes stared back at her, inches from her face. Her hands flew to block her vision, but Freddy magically caught both her wrists in midair.
Cathryn sucked in deep breaths through her mouth as she heard the other animatronics move closer, their metal bodies easy to detect in the small room.
Help! She was slowly being surrounded by bloodthirsty animatronics and could do nothing about it!
Her eyelids forced themselves fully open and she stared wide-eyed into the face of Fazbear's main mascot: Freddy Fazbear himself, partly crouched in front of her. Once again, he was way too close for comfort, and she could feel her heart drop into the pit of her stomach.
"Hello again."
Just hearing his strange voice sent tremors through her body, and Cathryn partly turned her head away. She tried not to stare at the other robots gathering behind him.
Freddy didn't look pleased, and Cathryn suddenly worried she had offended him by not responding.
"H-Hello?" It was all she could manage to say. She gulped down saliva and tried to think of peaceful thoughts to calm herself. Certainly, the situation could be worse. She could be dead right now instead of alive.
"You have come back to fix us." Freddy sounded so certain. It was weird hearing him speak plainly, with no musical lyrics in the background directed towards kids or focused on pizza. He sounded almost human...
It was probably what unnerved her the most.
"I–I..." Cathryn wasn't sure what to say in response. Should she tell him the truth? That she pretty much had no clue how to fix giant, maniac robots? Or would that just make him rip her precious arms off? She tried to gently twist her wrists to test how tight his grip was.
Very firm. Very unbreakable.
One of Freddy's eyebrows slowly raised when she hesitated to continue speaking, and it seemed more like a threat than a look insisting she elaborate.
"I don't actually know how much I can do," she admitted in an airy whisper. The room was quiet, but she still wondered if Freddy had been unable to hear her.
His face went expressionless. Clicks and whirring sounds could be heard from the other animatronics behind him. He responded in the strange robot language instead of to her, which probably wasn't good.
In all the craziness, a question filled Cathryn's mind that almost made her want to laugh: Could the other animatronics speak without music, or was it just Freddy? She wanted to slap herself in the forehead and go home to try and regain some of her lost sanity. She could be dead any minute now, and that's what she cared about?
"Explain," Freddy demanded after a minute of silence.
"I mean, your parts probably aren't that old, but I still don't know how to fix robots," she mumbled, struggling to keep her voice steady.
