Chapter 1

Rainkit held back a laugh, Badgerkit would never find her! She waited patiently. Badgerkit walked past the bush, his tail held high. Rainkit sprang at the young tom kit sending him tumbling. She giggled. 'Caught you! ' Badgerkit lay defeated. Clawstorm padded over and grabbed Rainkit by the scruff. She squealed has his teeth clamped into her fur. He dropped her on the ground and she struggled to get back on her four paws. 'Hey! ' she shrieked. 'Don't go attacking your Denmates. ' The warrior hissed and padded away. Rainkit muttered and shook her fur. She felt her pelt bristle with anger. 'You good Rainkit? ' Badgerkit rubbed his head on her side. 'Yeah! I think Clawstorm woke up on the wrong side of his nest. ' She smirked. 'I wonder what Smallkit and Stormkit are doing, they don't play with us because their to boring! Well served them right they'll ruin our games anyways. ' Rainkit hopped to the elders den happily, Badgerkit bounded after her. 'Tell me a story Mumblenose. ' Rainkit mewed happily. 'Ah, when I was an apprentice, my mentor took me out on my first patrol. I was so excited! I had scented a fox and told my mentor, we got a few more cats and followed the trail, great star clan the fox was huge. It could swallow a kit like you whole! ' Badgerkit shrieked. Rainkit just rolled her eyes. ' we attacked the fox and drove it away, though not all warriors in our group were lucky. My sister, she was half blinded, but she became a great warrior after. But moons later she was found dead at a loners paws. We don't know who the loner was. But I'm sure they got their karma. Ah, that's it for today kits. ' The elder yawned and went to sleep. Rainkit and badgerkit raced around camp for a bit. 'im tired.. ' badgerkit yawned. 'Oh don't be a lazy mouse. ' rainkit hissed padding over to the fresh kill pile, she knew she wasn't clan born. She could hardly remember her siblings, fox pigeon and hail. But clan life was so much better. She grabbed a vole and clamped her jaws around it, tasting all the juicy flavours. After she finished she had an idea. 'Badgerkit! ' her friend came running over. 'Wanna sneak out? ' she whispered. 'But will get in trouble' he mewed nervously. 'We won't get caught! ' rainkit giggled, badgerkit muttered and nodded. The two snuck through the dirt place. The river was frozen. 'Ill go first' mewed rainkit. 'No, I will! ' badgerkit yelped hopping onto the ice. Rainkit heard a crack and shrieked as the ice broke out from under him, he struggled to lift himself up shrieking as the water tryed to pull him under. 'Badgerkit! ' worry plunged through her, she dove into the water pushing him up to shore, she saved him but water began to cloud her vision, she felt jaws clamp around her and she was lifted out of the water. Clawstorm placed her on the river bank, anger flashing through his amber eyes. Rainkit whined. She had no chance to really react has she started coughing wildly, she felt clawstorm pick her and badgerkit up carrying them to the medicine den. They were dropped onto the nest, little storm quickly began lapping his tongue on the kits fur. 'Snowstar will hear about this. ' clawstorm growling, trotting off with his tail swaying across the dust. 'Im sorry badgerkit.. ' she muttered. Badgerkit turned his back to her. His black and white pelt damp and soaked from the river. Guilt surged through her, would snowstar cancel her apprentice ceremony?  She let out a soft whimper and curled up her tail covering her face, she felt safer with badgerkits pelt brushing against her. She opened her eyes as light flashed through the den before blinking a few times. She raised her haunches and stretched out her front paws. She let out a loud yawn and stood up, badgerkit sat in the clearing and she ran to greet her friend. 'Hey! ' she mewed happily, He gave her a glare and walked away. She looked at the ground, pain stung her heart. Rainkits eyes teared up, she bounded towards badgerkit again, desperate to get him to talk to her. 'What do you want! ' he snapped, rains eyes widened. 'I... Just wanted to say sorry. ' she mewed. He glared at her. 'Not forgiven! ' he hissed before padding to the clearing. 'All cats old enough to swim through the rapids please gather around the wet rock for a clan meeting! ' snowstar yelled. Rain kit raced to the clearing. Small kit storm kit and badgerkit had already found a place to sit. 'We have 4 kits who have reached the 6 moon mark, Smallc kit storm kit badgerkit and rainkit please step up. ' Snowstar mewed. 'Rainkit, Stormkit, Smallkit and Badgerkit you have reached the age of six moons, and it is time for you to be apprenticed. From this day on, until you receive your warrior name, you will be known as Rainpaw, Stormpaw, Smallpaw and Badgerpaw. Smallpaws mentor will be Willowfur, Stormpaw with Featherfoot, I will mentor Badgerpaw. Claw storm will mentor Rainpaw. I hope you all pass down your knowledge to these apprentices! ' Rainpaw touched noses with claw storm, his glare seemed calm. ' I will show you the territory today, tommorow will be battle practice. ' Rainkit nodded happily, the two walked towards camp entrance. Clawstorm stopped. 'Carefull on the ice. ' he hissed. Rainpaw nodded, hopping across the stoned 'Stepping stones, they get slippery in leaf are careful! ' he mewed, rainpaw nodded, she followed clawstorm, 'That is the bridge. We go that way to four trees. ' Rainpaw glared, she bounded towards the bridge. 'Hey! ' clawstorm hissed chasing after her, rainpaw felt the ground beneath her loosen and she screeched. Clawstorms teeth clamped around her sides and he placed her on land. 'You almost got yourself killed! Great starclan. But this is the gorge, don't go near it again. ' Clawstorm growled, rainpaw whined and nodded, clawstorm led her through the snow, stopping near strange territory. 'That smells! ' rainpaw hissed, wrinkling her nose. 'Thats sunning rocks, and our border with thunderclan. Sunning rocks will be ours soon enough. ' clawstorm grinned. Rainpaw noticed a small cat with orange patches. 'Fox? ' she mumbled. 'What, oh a thunderclan patrol, great spotting rainpaw. ' clawstorm nodded. 'Thats it for today, moon high comes early in leaf are! ' Rainpaw whined a but before nodding and trodding after her mentor. Her pass sore from all the walking she had done. She let out a small yawn and hopping across the stepping stones. Stretching out her front paws and lifting her haunches as soon as she entered cMamp. She felt Badgerpaws gaze drift towards her. She smiled bouncing towards him, but he once again walked away. She growled and jumped in front of him. 'Why do you keep running away from me? Im sorry! But ignoring me isn't gonna do anything! Just talk to me please.. Smallpaw and Stormpaw find me annoying.. Your my only friend! Please... ' her eyes teared and Badger paw stared at her, his eyes watered a bit. 'I... But you almost got us both killed! You expect me to wanna be friends with you for that? I hate you! You'll never be a real warrior, your gonna mess something up and stay an apprentice for ever! I bet clawstorms already tired of your mewing. ' Badgerpaw hissed. 'Y-you really think that..? ' Rainpaw whined. 'I-' Badger paw mewed before being cut off by Rainpaw. 'Im sorry for being such a fish brain.. I guess. ' rainpaw ran off. 'No wait! ' badgerpaw yelled, but rainpaw kept running. She layed down in her nest, years streamed down her face, she covered her head with her tail. Badgerpaws words rang in her ears. 'Im sorry.. ' she cryed, her sobs drowned out by a gust of wind. She woke up as dawn rose, stretching out her legs and lifting her haunches, she yawned softly and walked towards the clearing. Badgerpaw sat neatly on the dust, she noticed a dark shadow looking over her him. It's talons were inches away from him, without hesitation she ran and pounced, her teeth digging into a mouthfull of feathers, the bird squeaked before falling limp under her claws. Cats stared in shock..
