Darco smiled slightly as he watched the boy in front of him visibly relax. Harry's face looked much more at peace than before so Draco continued tracing smoothing circles on the back of his hand. He wasn't exactly sure what was going on with him but he could see that Harry was not alright and silently swore to himself that he would keep an eye on the Gryffindor from now on. After all, he did owe his life to him.
Draco looked at Harry's hand and frowned at the sight. The skin around Harry's nails was bleeding due to him picking on it. He also noticed a few old scratches that hadn't healed completely. Draco assumed that Harry had picked on them before they could heal properly making the wound reopen. This made Draco even more concerned for the other boy.
"How long has he been doing this? How come Weasley and Granger haven't noticed this and tried to help him out?" Draco thought to himself. This behavior was not necessarily a form of self-harm but Draco was worried that it might lead to something worse if it wasn't taken care of.
"Potter?" Draco called out cautiously trying not to scare Harry again. Harry let out a small hum of acknowledgment with his eyes still closed letting Draco know he heard him so he continued speaking.
"Is it alright if I clean and bandage these scratches for you? It can get infected if it's not treated properly." Draco said carefully taking note of the boys' reaction. He still wasn't sure whether Harry was comfortable around him given their rough history and he didn't want to overstep his boundary. "Or I could take Madam Pomfrey if you'd like? The choice is yours." Draco added hesitantly.
To Draco's surprise, Harry's eyes flew open at the mention of Madam Pomfrey. Fear flashed through Harry's eyes and Draco felt the smaller boys' hand tremble slightly. Draco gave Harry's hand a gentle squeeze and smiled at him encouragingly trying to get the boy in front of him to use his words.
"I-I... I don't want Madam Pomfrey to know..." Harry mumbled quietly, so quiet that Draco barely understood his words. "Please.." Harry's eyes welled up with tears as he stared up at Draco's eyes. Deep down Harry always felt he deserved the pain he subconsciously inflicted upon himself by picking on his skin and the thought of others knowing how weak he truly was terrified him. He was supposed to be strong, a role model to others but in reality he was none of that. He was just a weak freak who couldn't even handle his thoughts and emotions.
"That's alright. I won't take you there if you don't want to Potter." Draco replied as calmly as he could but on the inside his heart was crumbling at the sight of the broken boy in front of him. "But you have to get your hand treated... Is it alright if I do it for you? I promise I'll be gentle and it won't take that long."
Harry hesitated. He didn't understand why Draco was being so nice and gentle with him. He had always thought the blonde hated him and although he would never admit it to anyone just the thought of Draco hating him made the boy extremely sad. He always wished he had befriended Draco rather than fought with him so whenever Draco said something hurtful to him when they were younger it hurt Harry more than it should have.
Draco noticed Harry's hesitant look and sighed sadly. Of course he didn't blame Harry for being hesitant. If he was Harry, he would have said no in a heartbeat. Draco knew how much he had hurt Harry growing up and he felt guilt course through his veins just thinking about the things he had done in the past. Looking at how broken Harry is right now made Draco understand that maybe Harry hadn't had a wonderful life growing up as he always thought he did. I mean one would expect the savior of the world to be brought up with love and royalty but after seeing him at such tonight he wasn't so sure anymore. He strongly believed that Harry's past had a great deal to do with whatever the boy was going through right now.
Draco could not change the past no matter how terrible he felt. He could not take back the horrible things he said and had done to Harry in the past but he sure as hell could make up for it now by making his future better. Draco didn't know what was going on with the green-eyed boy but in his mind, he promised himself that he would be there for Harry from this day forward until the end.
