Draco kept stealing glances at the raven-haired boy as the pair walked in comfortable silence. The only sounds were the occasional chatter and laughter of the Slytherin gang ahead, the soft rustle of leaves in the autumn breeze, and the soft patter of their footsteps that echoed as they walked. Harry noticed Draco's gaze the second time the blonde looked at him. The raven-haired boy forced himself to look straight ahead trying hard to stop the blush forming on his cheeks due to due to the unwavering gaze of the Slytherin beside him.
Draco's heart raced with each glance he stole at Harry, unable to believe how different things felt now compared to their school years. He was drawn to Harry in a way he hadn't expected, and he found himself wanting to know more about the boy who had once been his rival.
"Harry," Draco said finally breaking the silence. Harry kept his eyes forward but hummed in acknowledgment. "I just wanted to say... I'm glad you decided to join us today." Draco continued softly. As they continued walking, Draco couldn't help but notice the small smile on Harry's lips at Draco's words. The blonde was unable to resist smiling in return.
"I hope you don't mind..." Harry mumbled softly, gesturing to Draco's jumper that hung loosely on his scrawny frame. Draco chuckled softly at this shaking his head.
"Not at all. The others were right, it looks good on you," Draco replied gently. "The green brings out your eyes more.." Draco continued, his gaze lingering on Harry's emerald eyes longer than it should have. Harry blushed at the blonde's words glancing down at the jumper. Something about the jumper made the raven-haired boy feel comfortable and safe.
"It's just the material and the warmth it provides..." Harry thought to himself, attempting to justify why he continued to wear Draco's jumper despite having plenty of his own. Deep down, he knew it wasn't the real reason and that there was more to it, no matter how hard he tried to convince himself otherwise.
As they approached the entrance to Hogsmeade, the group paused looking around at the bustling village. The shops were filled with students and the air was thick with the sweet scent of baked goods and the chatter of happy voices.
"Alright, everyone," Blaise announced, grinning. "Let's split up and meet at the Three Broomsticks in two hours. Sound good?" Everyone nodded collectively and quickly got in pairs. Blaise with Pansy, Theo with Goyle, and Millicent with Daphne, leaving Draco and Harry to stare at each other in silence. The Slytherin pairs quickly set off in different directions talking excitedly. Harry stood with Draco unsure of what to say or what to do. Draco turned to the smaller boy with a smile.
"I guessed you're stuck with me then," Draco said chuckling making Harry smile. "So where do you wanna head first?" Draco asked looking down at the smaller boy. Harry looked at Draco in shock.
The raven-haired boy wasn't used to being asked what he wanted to do as his whole life had been mapped out for him since the day he had defeated Voldemort as a baby. At first, it was the Dursleys, where he had to do anything and everything they wished or he would be punished severely. When he was introduced to the wizarding world, he thought maybe things would be different and that he could be who he wanted to here but that hope soon disappeared as soon he realized the weight of the expectations placed on him to defeat Voldemort. Even now after the war ended, Harry found himself struggling to make simple decisions for himself, having grown used to others making choices on his behalf.
Draco watched with a frown as Harry glanced at the shops around him nervously. The blonde placed a comforting hand on Harry's shoulder and smiled reassuringly making the raven-haired boy release a breath he hadn't realized he'd been holding. Harry's gaze wandered over the various shops again until it settled on one shop in particular. Draco followed Harry's gaze and smiled.
"Tomes and Scrolls it is then!" Draco exclaimed as he dragged Harry towards the shop. Harry giggled lightly at Draco's playful behavior and allowed himself to be dragged along by the blonde.
Arriving at the bookstore, Harry felt a surge of nostalgia wash over him as he stepped inside. The familiar scent of old books filled the air, and the raven-haired boy found himself surrounded by endless possibilities. Harry quickly rushed forward, his excitement getting the best of him. Draco followed closely behind him, unable to take his eyes off the boy in front of him. Draco watched with a fond smile as he noticed every small detail about Harry as the boy eagerly browsed the shelves. The way Harry's eyes lit up at the sight of new books, the way he tilted his head cutely to read the title of each book, the way he flipped through each book gently as if they were something delicate and precious.
"I just can't take my eyes off of you..." Draco thought to himself helplessly as his eyes followed every move the smaller boy made.
Soon enough, Harry found his arms overflowing with books. Unable to hold them all, they slipped from the raven-haired boy's grasp and tumbled to the ground. Draco laughed at the sight of Harry's sad frown as he gazed down at the fallen books.
"Who knew you were such a nerd, short stack," Draco remarked with an amused smirk as he bent down to pick up the scattered books. Harry huffed at the blonde's words as a light blush crept up his cheeks.
"I am not a nerd," Harry mumbled as he glared at Draco. With a flick of his wand, the raven-haired boy wordlessly levitated the books off the floor making Draco jump back in surprise. "And I am certainly not short." Harry huffed as he turned away from the blonde and headed towards the register to pay. Once he overcame his initial shock, the blonde followed Harry with a grin spreading across his face.
"You know, you're really cute when you're mad," Draco said, leaning against the counter as he waited for the cashier to ring up the books. Harry turned a deep shade of red and stared straight ahead, trying to ignore the piercing stare that Draco was giving him. The raven-haired boy quickly paid for his books and stomped out of the store ignoring the blonde completely. Draco quickly caught up with Harry.
"Okay okay, I was only joking, no need to get angry love," Draco said pouting playfully. Harry glared at the taller boy but his glare lacked any real anger and the blonde knew that. "I'm sorryy, how long are you going to ignore me for? This a bit of a cruel punishment, don't you think?" Draco continued with a dramatic sigh. Harry rolled his eyes at Draco's antics but couldn't stop himself from the smile forming on his face. Noticing Harry's smile, the blonde grinned to himself, pleased that he had managed to make Harry at least somewhat happy.
