28: Death Clock

Janice and I continue on through the void, with the occasional appearance of those shadow wolf things. But truth be told after my agreement with her, they haven't even gotten close to touching us. She's got some form of a second wind, legit speeding around ripping those things to shreds. If they had guts, she'd be covered in them.

And everytime she finishes I'm immediately embraced by her stealing my hand. It's hard to track time in here, I've never been good with counting down seconds. But I'm sure it's been an hour or two, if time even exists that is. Something has been lingering on my mind though regarding Janice.

It's about our first encounter, and how she practically saw right through me and my 'plan' that's gone so well. Figure I'll ask her to pass the time a bit while we're still walking. "..Hey Janice. I'm curious about something." I whisper, she hums happily towards me in confusion. "Back when we first met, why did you go with the 'fake fanboy boyfriend' joke? It felt way too, coincidental at the time." I ask, and I feel her pause.

She hums in thought for a moment. "Well, honestly I kinda overheard you do it with Sarah. Plus your reaction going from normal to calculating kinda gave it away. I've had rabid fans before, and you sure as hell wasn't one. As for the girlfriend thing, I'm...Not sure actually. When I first saw you, I stopped thinking clearly." She admits, me frowning towards the end.

Seriously, what is so special about me? I'm just a guy trying to work and go to school, not be a hero womanizer. I sigh, causing her to let my hand go. "I-I hope tha-that wasn't weird. I-I'm sorry. Really, I don't know why either haha. It's why I asked earlier, heh." She stutters out in panic. I shake my head lightly, "you're okay. that's not why I'm sighing. I just, don't get it. This apparent popularity with me. All my life I attracted little attention, but suddenly I've got all of this happening? it's.. overwhelming honestly."

She stops moving, grabbing both my hands this time. "(Y/N), I'm not quite sure of it yet either honestly. But I can tell you're not a bad person, you treat all of us as regular people. Better yet as friends, quickly making situations more relaxed and we stop feeling like hero's. We can be ourselves, we can be happy. So don't feel down over that, you're worthy of love and attention."

I pause, blinking slowly. Damn. That's one way to put it I suppose. I chuckle lightly, "That, makes sense actually. Still a lot, but it's not all bad. Thank you for that, Jan." I give her hands a little squeeze in affirmation. I can't see in this darkness, but she's blushing heavily. Thoughts running rampant in her mind about her loyalty to Sarah versus just pouncing right now.

She starts giggling very softly, having it slowly get louder. I see something behind her, wait a minute. I see something! It's a white glowing door! "Janice! Turn around!" I near shout and she turns ready to fight. But sees it as well, she glances back at me smiling widely and snakes my hand again. "Let's get the fuck out of here."

Sarah POV:

  I quickly caught up to Crescent and Mary, scouting the east mountain we see two giant concrete doors in the floor. Looks like an old warhead facility, if my history serves right it was some WW2 bunk. The reason we have powers today, I chuckle. The reason I can protect (Y/N). right... (Y/N).. he better be okay.

If not.. nukes might not be enough.

We land in front of it, Crescent looking at the two of us and nods. We all grab a part of the door, and heave at the same time. Sending it a few feet flying into the air then landing behind us. Wires and mechanical parts along with it, we hop down into the entrance ready for the other side.

Landing onto the ground I quickly scout around with my eyes, seeing nothing significant. Then the lights turn on, "Welcome welcome in! What a shame you found me so quickly, but Mei played her part well." Neon announces over an intercom. "come out so we may kill you." I mutter, Crescent glancing at me annoyed.
