When I got past the cloud barrier, I nearly choked on the demonic aura emanating from the citadel. Who knew a handful of devils could emit such a high-density aura? I didn't waste any time as I pulled out several foam bombs and a handful of enchanted fire spheres.
(Now, to be clear, I made sure the only ones here were the devils and captured fairies. With that off my conscience, I went straight to work.)
I don't know if whatever power source that was keeping the citadel afloat got damaged, or if it just ran out, but the thing decreased its altitude as soon as I began dropping bombs on it. With my invisibility spell cloaking my presence, I snuck into the place as the devils were trying desperately to keep the citadel in the air.
The inside was just as creepy as the outside. Were it not for our natural ability to sense each other, finding my fellow fairies would have been difficult, to say the least. However, when I checked my stats, I saw that both my mana and magic were slowly being eaten away. (Guess I'm not as immune as I thought.)
I quickly found the captured fairies. All of them were in the cells and many were on the verge of losing their wings due to mana depletion. Before I could do anything, I had to get rid of the guard first.
(I'd rather not describe what it looked like and just tell you I used my sticky foam bomb to subdue it.)
After I took care of the guard, I threw open the nearest cell door and checked the health of everyone in it. They were barely conscious and staring into space. It took pouring a few droplets of that wine down their throats to restore both their mana and magic enough for them to regain their senses.
(Apparently, that's what the wine is used for; emergency magic/mana restoration. If you're not on the brink of death . . . Well, you know what happens. I wish someone had told me that before.)
"I know you guys still can't fly," I told them. "So use this to get out." I handed one of them a teleportation sphere. (It's something I invented at the Crafters Guild.) "It can't take you very far so you'll have to picture the temple to get it to work."
I looked at all the cells; there were at least six with fairies and some with other races. With misgivings, I said; "I don't have a lot of these," I gestured to the spheres. "How many of you guys are here?"
"I lost count at forty-nine of us," a fairy named Rosemary said. "But there's at least a double dozen elves and ten human mages."
"Okay," I stood and announced; "Here's what we're going to do. First, we're going to go from cell to cell. Then everyone is going to help those who can't stand. And finally, you're all going to hold hands and use this sphere." I held up the teleportation sphere. "To get to the ground."
Just then, a massive explosion from outside shook the whole dungeon. Without a moment to lose, I went from cell to cell to cell, freeing captives, forcing that wine down nearly all of their throats. The good news was that many of the captives could walk on their own. The bad news was the teleportation sphere could only teleport about fifty people and I only had three with me. With the first two used up, I had to make the last one count.
In the last cell were three dark elves and eight human mages. They seem to be recent captives, as they were in fairly good health. One of them told me where the devils were keeping the two fairies I couldn't find. I gave them the teleportation sphere and headed for the deepest part of the dungeon. (The only ones I couldn't find were Chepi and Callula.)
As I was running, the wall beside me suddenly burst. Behind that wall was an angry Armageddon; thankfully, he was in his dark elf form.
"W-what are-?" I tried to ask, but he interrupted.
