The next morning, Daenerys dressed in a formal outfit befitting her status as a Senator. She chose a flowing, deep blue gown with silver embroidery that highlighted her regal bearing. She pinned her platinum blonde hair up elegantly, leaving a few strands to frame her face. Taking a deep breath to steady herself, she left her penthouse and made her way to the Chancellors' building, which would take her to Chancellor Palpatine's office.

As the elevator ascended to the top floor, Daenerys felt a flutter of nerves in her stomach. The elevator doors opened with a soft chime, and she quickly fixed a strand of her hair before stepping out. Two guards stood in front of the Chancellor's office doors. At her approach, they pulled the doors open, and Daenerys walked in.

Chancellor Palpatine stood by the large window, his back to the room, looking out over the sprawling cityscape of Coruscant. The morning light bathed the room in a warm glow, casting long shadows.

"Ah, Senator Targaryen," Palpatine said, turning to greet her with a welcoming smile. His eyes, however, held a hint of something more calculating.

Daenerys walked to the front of his desk and sat in one of the two chairs. "Hello, Chancellor," she replied, her voice steady despite the undercurrent of tension she felt.

Palpatine walked over to his desk and sat down across from her. "How has everything been going? How are Naboo and your dragon... uh, what's the creature's name again?" Palpatine asked, waving his hand vaguely as if trying to recall.

"Drogon, his name is Drogon," Daenerys corrected him politely before continuing. "He is fine, and Naboo is doing well. Queen Amidala and I have developed a close partnership, and we are doing well within the Senate, as I am sure you have heard," Daenerys stated.

Chancellor Palpatine's smile dropped slightly at the mention of the Senate. "Yes, I heard about the sanctions bill you all agreed to pass. I am not too thrilled with it," he stated, his tone cooling.

Daenerys looked confused. "Excuse me, Chancellor, but the sanctions are a good thing. We'll be able to implement efforts to help those severely hurt by the war," she explained.

"Yes, yes, by giving the Senate more power to pass all kinds of bills to help contribute to aid," Palpatine interjected, finishing Daenerys' thought.

Daenerys shifted uncomfortably in her chair as an awkward silence formed between them. Palpatine took a deep sigh before standing up and walking around to the front of his desk.

"Do you not realize what the other senators could do before the war ends?" he asked, looking down at her.

Daenerys shook her head, her confusion evident. "No, Chancellor, I don't."

"Since the Senate created the bill to be able to pass sanctions, they could create one that would remove my executive powers before the war ends. Without those powers, there is a possibility the separatists could get wind and use that to their advantage," Palpatine stated, his voice filled with a mix of frustration and warning.

"But your executive powers have helped us, and you haven't abused them unless necessary," Daenerys said, her voice reflecting her genuine confusion.

"Yes, yes, I agree, but some people in the Senate feel differently," Palpatine stated. His words sent a memory flashing through Daenerys' mind, recalling her recent meeting with Senator Organa. She briefly considered how that conversation and this one might be interconnected.

"You see, Senator Targaryen, I have heard rumors that some Senators are planning to overthrow me before the war ends. I asked you here to meet with me to find out if you have heard or know of anything involving that rumor," Palpatine stated, now standing straight with his hands clasped behind his back, his gaze piercing.
