Imperial Capital Vale, Valur Empire
Emperor Auxas II glanced at the war map of the ongoing situation. It had been weeks since the discovery of Vokaltia and the massive ghoul army following him, wreaking havoc on everything in their path and sowing destruction, despair, death, and agony to everyone who stood in their way.
He had already lost several Falcon Knights, an insignificant fraction of their power but a painful blow to their pride and arrogance.
"Vokaltia," muttered the emperor, looking at the deteriorating situation. Every passing day, it grew worse. Cities and settlements were being destroyed one after another. Attempts to halt the advance or conduct reconnaissance had failed. The demon of the past was simply getting stronger by the second.
"On what world was this demon summoned back into the material world?" Emperor Auxas II asked the nearest representative archiver mage of the empire, Jucav, who was shrouded in a heavy veil of a dark, thick hood.
"I believe that over the last centuries, the demon has successfully weakened the seal that shackled him, allowing him to break free," Jucav replied to everyone. In reality, Vokaltia would not have broken free even a hundred years in the future; the seal was simply too powerful for Vokaltia to weaken or break. An external force, a consequence of their actions in Mineas, had brought this catastrophe back to life. Of course, they had no knowledge of the truth. "We need to gather all of our forces, a large army, to defeat this demon once and for all," he announced.
Auxas thought for a moment, considering the situation. If left unattended, it would threaten the very existence of their empire. "Raise the army, begin the extermination of Vokaltia!" he commanded. Thus, the massive mobilization of Valur began against the unprecedented threat brought by Vokaltia.
_____________By his orders, a large army was being amassed. Fliers and request papers were scattered throughout the southern regions of the empire and in the vicinity of Mineas. Good pay and the promise of glory for the death of Vokaltia were offered, tempting those in poverty or near death's door. Thousands of young and old, commoners and nobles alike, were recruited by the allure of these rewards.
"The demon of the past and an army of ghouls, huh?"
"The pay is good, no doubt, but to raise this much, the ghouls might be a bigger problem than that demon. What do you think?"
"The imperial army seems to be the frontline to subjugate the demon. We're probably going to be the cannon fodder against those endless waves of undead."
"If it's really that big, there's no way the empire would waste money on something trivial. They must think they have enough numbers to match the enemies."
Everyone chattered and murmured about the situation, contemplating the potential adversaries. Yet, unbeknownst to them, the true fear of Vokaltia had yet to be fully realized. That would come on the day of the great battle.
A few days later
Above the Jeliax, southern regions of the empire, a Cessna 208 Caravan flew silently. Acquired by Cignus from a non-governmental wildlife observation and conservation group, requisitioned by Oliver himself, once integrated into the air force, they began to be deployed. Knowing the current situation and potential enemy's technological level and threat, Cignus concluded even flying in a straight flight alone was more than enough to keep the pilots and passengers safe. Typically, drones would be sent flying, but the Cessna 208 was seen as a better and cheaper alternative for the moment. It was capable of fulfilling its intended role with side-looking FLIRs and cameras intended for wildlife rescue and observation for extended periods of time.
