Humans are like parasites. Humans, disgusting and vile creatures we are. We hate and hate even when there's nothing left to hate. We always want more. We convince ourselves that we possess some kind of "god" given specialness, that our natural disposition is light itself. Look around you, what do you see? People despise each other for the smallest differences. They would willingly kill and try to exterminate each other because of these tiny differences. Everyone wants to be understood and respected but aren't willing to show others the same compassion. We repeat the same mistakes and tragedies over and over because our inflated egos blinds us and lulls us into a false sense of security. We like to think of ourselves as better and smarter than our ancestors but we fight the same wars they did for similar reasons, and we hate each other for the same things. It's like we're in an endless cycle doomed to repeat, over and over again.
Let's look inward even then what we see will shock us. The world we live in is full of facades and false pretense. How much of what makes you "You" is defined by that. Do you really know who you are or what you believe in or is that just a reflection of what others think? Do you believe because everyone else believes or do you know why you believe? It's all very abstract really.
Author's note: This is less of poem and more of a musing.
