Alexander's laboratory was tucked away in the basement of the university's science building, a place where he could work in solitude without interruptions. It was a cluttered space, filled with electronic components, half-assembled devices, and stacks of research papers. In the center of the room stood a large, unfinished contraption—his time machine.
Sophia had never been down there, and Alexander was nervous about revealing his secret project to her. One evening, he decided it was time. "Sophia, there's something I want to show you," he said, taking her hand and leading her to his lab.
She looked around, amazed by the sheer volume of work he had put into the place. "This is incredible, Alexander. What is all this?"
He took a deep breath. "I've been working on a time machine. It's something I've dreamed about since I was a kid, and I believe I’m close to making it work."
Sophia stared at him, her eyes wide with astonishment. "A time machine? That's... that's unbelievable. How does it work?"
Alexander launched into an explanation of the complex physics and engineering behind the project, his excitement palpable. Sophia listened intently, her admiration for him growing with every word. "You really are amazing," she said softly when he finished.
"Thank you," he replied, feeling a warmth spread through him. "I wanted you to know because... well, this project means a lot to me, but you mean even more. I don't want there to be any secrets between us."
Sophia smiled, her heart full. "I appreciate that, Alexander. And I'm here to support you, no matter what."
