The next day, Alexander and Sophia headed to the lab. The time machine stood in the center of the room, a complex array of wires, circuits, and glowing lights. Alexander explained the process to Sophia, walking her through each step of the test.
"Are you ready?" he asked, his hand hovering over the control panel.
Sophia nodded, her heart racing. "Ready."
Alexander activated the machine, and the room filled with a low hum. Lights flickered, and the device began to vibrate. Sophia watched in awe as the air around the machine seemed to shimmer.
Suddenly, there was a bright flash, and the machine powered down. For a moment, there was silence. Then, Alexander let out a whoop of joy. "It worked! The energy levels spiked exactly as predicted!"
Sophia hugged him tightly. "I'm so proud of you!"
