After months of relentless work, the day finally came for the first test of Alexander's time machine. He had run countless simulations and double-checked every calculation, but the real test would be in the execution.
Sophia was by his side, her presence calming his nerves. "Are you sure about this?" she asked, her voice filled with concern.
"I have to try," Alexander replied. "If it works, it will be the greatest achievement of my life."
He activated the machine, the room filling with a low hum. Lights flickered, and the device began to vibrate. Alexander held his breath, his eyes fixed on the control panel. Suddenly, there was a bright flash, and the machine powered down.
For a moment, there was silence. Then, Alexander let out a whoop of joy. "It worked! The energy levels spiked exactly as predicted!"
Sophia hugged him tightly. "I'm so proud of you!"
