Cadmus

It was evening by the time we reached the Cadmus building; I was shocked to find it was still on fire. 'I thought Superman said it was a small fire. Why is it still burning then?'

I was startled from my thoughts when an explosion knocked two scientists out of a window several stories from the ground. "KF!" I drew Wally's attention to them as he could reach them faster than the rest of us, as I couldn't safely open a wormhole in the atmosphere.

"On it!" He replied. He was able to catch both of them and get them to the roof of the building, unfortunately he didn't have enough momentum to get onto the roof himself and he grabbed onto an open windowsill to avoid hitting the ground.

I sighed in relief as I landed next to Robin and Aqualad.

"So smooth," Robin commented on Wally's performance.

Meanwhile Aqualad grumbled at his actions, "does he always have to run ahead?"

"To be fair I did tell him to," I came to his defense for once. Then I looked to find Robin disappearing and decided to follow; completely unaware that Aqualad was still talking.

Robin let out his classic chuckle as we proceeded to the same window Wally was hanging from. I created a platform to raise him into the building while Robin investigated the room we had entered; we were joined by Aqualad moments later.

"Appreciate the help," he sarcastically stated, looking pointedly at me and Robin.

"You handled it. Besides we're here to investigate; 'poetic justice' remember?" Robin's response was confident while I just sheepishly rubbed my arm and mumbled a "sorry" as he walked away.

*Ding*

'What the-?' My head shot up when I heard what could only have been an elevator. I followed Rob and KF as we caught up to Aqualad.

"Elevators should be locked down."

"Then why do you think that one's still working?" I asked. KF gave me a shrug in response.

"Could be the building's safety system didn't kick in all the way, or it could be an old system needing an update, or-"

"Or this is an express elevator," Robin interrupted while reading information from his hologlove. "Which doesn't belong in a two story building."

"Neither does what I saw," Aqualad chimed in.

"Blue can you-?"

"Gotcha Rob," I stepped up and used my ring to make a flat blue rectangle between the doors. I concentrated a bit more to split the shape into two and forced the elevator doors open. I proceeded to shine a light down the shaft but couldn't see the bottom.

Robin crouched in the opening, "and that's why they need an express elevator." H pulled out his grapple gun, shot it to the ceiling, and jumped down the dark hole; with Aqualad and KF following behind. I floated into the shaft and let my construct fade away as I float down to the others, lighting the way as we went.

I had passed SL 27 when Rob softly called to me saying, "I'm at the end of my rope." I flew back up to them as he bypassed security.

"There. Go!" I repeated the same thing on this door and let it close after we had all made it inside. "Welcome to Project Cadmus," Robin said in slight awe.

Before we could look around much KF started to run off.

Aqualad was the first to realize and tried to stop him, "Kid wait!" Unfortunately Wally, being Wally, didn't listen and I threw up a quick wall to stop him before he could get too far. Unfortunately for him - but fortunately for me and Rob - he basically face planted into it.
