The Brain

Superboy and I moved quickly through the jungle, following Captain Marvel's signal to an old temple-like building.

'I'll fly over.'

'Don't bother M'gann,' I said after scanning the pylons, 'the field is active on our side too.'

'It extends like a dome over the whole compound,' Wally said, probably seeing the actual field through his goggles.

'The pylons are insulated, but one good shock could cause a momentary gap.'

'I see a target.'

'Then be ready to hit it.'

'Just to be clear: we're on standby right?' Conner asked. I nodded to him as Kaldur replied with an affirmative.

'Yes, but be ready. All of you.'

A moment later and we can see the light show Kaldur's making from our side of the building.

'Now!' Wally says and we hear the machines power down.

I look up and see something moving on the roof, 'guys. Are those-?' A howler monkey's screeching cuts me off while also alerting whoever is inside the compound to our presence. 'Guess that answers that question.'

'I hate monkeys,' Conner says, more annoyed than hateful.

The sounds of their fight against the primates easily reaches us and it's hard to ignore the feeling of wanting to help but I somehow managed.

Minutes later we hear our cue, 'Miss Martian, Superboy, Lantern, now.'

With that we take off for the building with our furry backup and burst through the wall just as the rest of the Team get into their stances.

Superboy and I glance at each other and nod, letting the wolves go first. They immediately attack the gorilla with a machine gun who, now that I'm getting a proper look, turns out to be Monsieur Mallah, which in turn means the Brain is behind this.

After some of the wolves tackle Mallah my friends start tag teaming him while I go to help Aqualad deal with the Brain. Right as the Brain's laser beam breaks through Aqualad's shield I get between them and throw up a shield of my own, blocking further attacks.

"Go get Marvel," I yell at Kaldur. "I got him." I fire off a couple of shots through the shield, corralling him back to Mallah and my teammates.

Once Captain Marvel and Aqualad rejoin us, along with a new friend, I drop the shield but keep my arm trained on both our adversaries.

Mallah roars at us not happy about being cornered, while Superboy smacks his fist into his palm and warns him, "try it. I hate monkeys."

"No Mallah. This will not be our waterloo," Brain says at his body starts humming as it shifts into something new. "Aur revoir, mes amis."

"Get down!" KF shouts, and we all brace as the lights shut off, my glow providing the only light for a few seconds.

The lights turned back on and revealed the Brain and Mallah gone. "Wait," KF says, voicing our collective confusion. "That big weapon thing was, a light switch?"

"Looks like it," I say, dropping out of my stance and turning to the blown out wall to find the last of the wolves leaving over the hill. I lift my hand in a wave as the last one looks back at us and howls to the moon. "Thanks for the help," I whisper, before turning back to the others and heading to the bioship.

I was flying around the clearing, making sure that all the animals got their collars removed when I heard Artemis ask Wally something. Seeing that Aqualad had the last collared animal, I landed to join their conversation.
