It's just after midnight when I step onto the third floor of the library. Gwen's already waiting for me at a desk in the corner of the room near a window.
The moonlight illuminates Gwen's form in a way that she almost seems ethereal. I guess in a way she is. At least to me.
Now that I think about it, ever since she beat me at debate, there's been this constant feeling of upbeat when I see her. It's like seeing her makes my whole day ten times better.
And the funny part is, she won't even give me a second glance. I guess that's what prompted me to start teasing and competing with her in the first place. It was the only way that I could get her attention. Honestly, any type of attention from her seemed better than nothing.
Damn, I'm down bad.
Even now, dressed in her black sweatpants and our navy St. Aldridge Academy hoodie, I can't seem to take my eyes off her.
She triumphantly smiles as she looks down at her phone and holds it up for me to see. "Who's the late one now?"
I look at the time on her phone.
Two minutes past midnight.
She's right, I'm late.
I shake my head. "Fine, tease me all you want, Donnelley, at least it gets a smile out of you."
Her lips part in surprise.
"Wow, did I just make Gwen Donnelley speechless?"
I decide to push her a step further. "Just a boy and a girl alone in a library at midnight. The perfect opportunity for some alone time if you ask me." I slowly trail my finger on the desk where she is sitting. I inch closer to her.
"You are not coming anywhere near me or touching me." She narrows her eyes and points at me.
"I don't need to touch you to turn you on." I say as I stop right in front of her and lift my finger from the desk with a smirk.
"Yeah, right." She drawls.
"I guess we can always make sure." I pretend to reach out to touch her thigh. Her eyes widen and she swats my hand away.
"Don't." She bites out.
I hold up my hands in surrender. "Okay, okay. I promise to behave from now on." I say with my hand on my chest.
"Thank you."
"I promise to behave for the rest of tonight." I smile.
Gwen rolls her eyes. "You're insufferable."
I give her a cheesy grin in return. "Don't you mean I'm irresistible?"
She gives me a steely look. "I don't have all night you know." She snaps.
I smile and shake my head.
She's so easy to rile up sometimes. I love it. Actually, I think it might be my favourite thing to do.
