Author's Note: This chapter is a little emotional. At least it was for me when I was writing it because I have a brother who's a couple of years younger than me and I genuinely can't imagine not having him around. So if you're sensitive to this kind of topic, please don't read it and wait for the next update instead. Thank you.

"There she is!" Your mom happily spoke as she watched you walking into the backyard of your parent's house with your hands wrapped in Jennie's and Rosé's.

Your parents had been chatting with one of your aunts and uncles but they excitedly shifted their attention to you the second they saw you.

It's been a while since you've been able to come home due to things being so crazy with your job and other things.

But when your dad asked if you could make it to a family gathering and bring your girlfriends with you, you just couldn't say no because it had been so long and it sounded nice.

When you finally reached your parents' sides, Jennie and Rosie let go of your hands so you could hug them.

"We're so happy you made it." Your dad grinned. "And that you brought your girlfriends!"

"We couldn't say no to coming," Jennie said, sending your parents her precious gummy smile.

"It's been so long since we've seen you two. You both look so beautiful!" Your mom told them before hugging them.

"Thank you," Rosie giggled.

"So how have you been? Life must be keeping you busy since we haven't had the chance to see you in so long." Your dad said to you.

"Yeah. Work is crazy." You spoke and he nodded understandingly.

Just then, you heard someone call out for you and you looked over to see one of your cousins that you've always been close to across the yard.

"I'll be right back." You told your girlfriends before hurrying over to your cousin.

"We're so happy you girls could make it too. You know how much we love seeing you." Your dad said to them.

"We're so happy we could make it," Jennie said.

"How's Y/N been?" Your mom asked them and your girlfriends could see the worry in her eyes. "Is she doing okay? This time of the year is always very hard on her."

"It is?" Rosie asked. "She's been very well."

"She hasn't been crying too much or seems too upset?" Your dad wondered.

"Why would she be? What about this time of the year would make her so upset?" Jennie curiously but also worriedly asked.

Your parents looked at each other and then back at them.

"Y/N's never told you, has she?" Your mom sadly asked.

"Told us what?" Rosé wondered.

"This time of the year is very hard on Y/N because her brother passed away three years ago. Tomorrow marks one year. That's why we're having this family gathering with everyone because we tend to do it every year as a remembrance of him and spend time together to make sure anyone who's still grieving has support." Your dad replied.

Your girlfriends looked crushed as your dad said that.

"We had no idea," Jennie said.

"I'm not very surprised and I wouldn't take it personally either. Y/N has been pretty closed off about it. They were very, very close and the loss impacted her greatly. She's just never been the same and talking about it has been tough for her."

"How did it happen?" Rosie asked as Jennie grabbed her hand.

"He was on his way home from work. He worked pretty long hours and had been taking this road home that was very dark and had sharp turns. A drunk driver hit his car and he passed away before he even got to the hospital." Your dad said.

"It was hard on everyone but Y/N especially. She could barely get out of bed for months. She lost her job, lost her apartment, had to move back in with us, and she was so deeply depressed that getting her to eat was even an impossible task. They were more than just siblings, they were best friends. That loss was the worst and most painful thing that could've happened to her and she shut down."

That was hard to hear but it was even harder to know that you hadn't told them about it.

"Don't take her not telling you personally, okay? It's not either of you. It's just a very tough thing for her to talk about. Even to this day, she still struggles a lot." Your mom spoke.

Just then, you appeared back by their sides.

"What'd I miss?" You asked.

"Let's go talk," Jennie said before she and Rosie took your hands and led you into your parents' house.

"What's going on?" You asked.

"Your parents told us about what this family gathering is about," Rosie said. "It's for your brother?"

You lowered your head and nodded slowly.

"I'm sorry I never told you about him." You sighed. "It's hard for me to talk about. Don't get me wrong, I love talking about him because he was my best friend in the whole world. He was everything I had ever dreamt of being. He was so great."

They watched you smile through the tears filling your eyes.

"But how we lost him was very traumatic for me."

"That's understandable. We can't imagine having to go through that kind of unexpected and terrible loss." Jennie softly said.

"Yeah." You quietly spoke. "It was so difficult. I didn't think I'd ever make it through it. Not having him around was painful. I didn't know who I was going to talk to anymore or how to cope with him not being around. I lost everything. I couldn't leave my bed. Not having him around was something I had never been prepared for and something I didn't ever want to have to deal with. I would just cry and beg for him to come back."

Rosie swallowed the lump that appeared in her throat while Jennie tried to blink away her tears.

"It took a lot of time for me to be able to deal with the pain. I went to therapy and I dreamt about him. Eventually, I realized he was in a better place and that no one could ever hurt him. That helped me get through it. Plus, I still feel him all around me. Even though he's not by my side physically, he's safe inside my heart and I know he's always watching over me. I like to think he's always with me and that he's proud of who I am."

"He is." Jennie quickly said.

"He's very proud of you, baby." Rose smiled as she wiped away her tears.

"I know." You said before they pulled you in for a hug. "I think he's the one that led me to the two of you."

They smiled and kissed across your skin as they agreed wholeheartedly.

"We believe that too," Jennie said.

"He would've loved you both."

"Even though we didn't get to meet him, we're so happy we get to hear all about him," Rosie said. "Don't ever be afraid to tell us anything you want about him."

"We'll happily listen every time." Jennie smiled.

"And if you're ever hurting from the loss, we're here to listen to that too."

"Thank you. That means a lot to me."

They kissed your cheeks softly and you smiled as you kissed theirs too.

"Let's go back out there, okay?" Jennie said.

"Okay." You agreed and took their hands as you headed back out, feeling relieved after opening up to them.
