mai. Our beach day was an absolute blast! We spent hours playing in the waves, splashing around like kids, and soaking up the sun.
After that, we decided to crank up the fun with a game of beach volleyball. It was girls versus boys, and let's just say the guys, being hardcore volleyball players, didn't go easy on us.
We were outmatched, outplayed, and utterly crushed, but we laughed the whole time.
As the sky started to glow with that magical sunset orange, we knew it was time to wrap things up and head home.
The girls and I made our way to the public restroom to change, and that's when the real drama began.
Yoru, ever the straight shooter, turned to me as I brushed my hair in front of the mirror and said, "So, what's up with you lately?"
I blinked, taken aback. "What do you mean?" I asked, trying to sound casual. "Don't tell me you're falling for that loser." she said, eyes wide with mock horror.
I glared at her, lowering my voice to a whisper-yell. "Yoru, keep your voice down! And no, I am not."
Just then, Himei emerged from one of the stalls and joined us at the mirror. "I'm with Yoru on this. I saw you smiling at him when you two were talking." she said, giving me a knowing look.
I rolled my eyes, shaking my head. "Guys, I always smile when I talk to people." I said, focusing on brushing my hair.
"But do your eyes usually sparkle when you talk to people?" Himei pressed, catching me off guard.
I knew for a fact that my eyes did NOT sparkle when I talked to Suna. Before I could come up with a response, Yoru chimed in with a smirk, "I thought this was just a bet, Mai?"
I sighed, feeling cornered. "It is still a bet." I insisted, trying to sound more confident than I felt. "I'm just being nice to him, that's all."
Himei laughed softly. "Sure, Mai. Whatever you say." she said, her tone dripping with sarcasm.
I finished brushing my hair and turned to face them, trying to change the subject. "Anyway, can we drop this? It's been a long day and I just want to go home."
Yoru and Himei exchanged glances, clearly not convinced but willing to let it go for now. We finished changing and packed up our things, ready to head out.
As we walked back to the car, the guys caught up with us, still gloating about their volleyball victory.
"Ready to admit defeat?" Suna teased, nudging me playfully. I rolled my eyes but couldn't help smiling. "You wish." I shot back, feeling my cheeks heat up slightly.
Yoru and Himei shared a knowing look behind me, and I pretended not to notice. Despite their teasing, I knew they had my back, and that made all the difference.
"I'm kinda hungry." my new friend Atsumu said, patting his stomach. "There's a convenience store across the street. We could get some snacks there before heading home." Osamu suggested.
"I'll come with you." Yoru said, and Himei and Ginjima nodded in agreement. "You two coming with us?" Ginjima asked, looking at Suna and me.
"You guys go ahead." I said, waving them off. Suna looked at me, concerned. "You sure? I don't want to leave you here alone." he said, his voice full of genuine concern. He's so sweet.
"Suna, you dumbass, stay with her." Ginjima called out, laughing as he jogged to catch up with the others who were already crossing the street. And just like that, it was only Suna and me.
We stood there for a moment, the sounds of the waves buzzing around us. I could feel the awkwardness creeping in. "So, I guess it's just us." I said, trying to break the silence.
"Looks like it," Suna replied, a small smile playing on his lips. "Wanna take a walk while we wait for them?"
"Sure." I said, feeling a bit of a flutter in my chest as we started walking along the sidewalk.
The evening air was cool, and the city lights were starting to twinkle against the dusky sky. We walked in comfortable silence for a while, just enjoying the quiet and the company.
After a few minutes, Suna spoke up. "You know, today was really fun. Even though we totally crushed you guys in volleyball." he said, teasing me gently.
"Yeah, yeah, rub it in." I said, nudging him playfully. "You guys were just lucky." He laughed, and it was such a nice sound. "Maybe. Or maybe we're just that good."
I shook my head, laughing too. "Alright, Mr. Modest. But seriously, it was a great day."
And then I remembered something I almost forgot. "Oh, Yoru's having a house party tomorrow," I said, nervously chuckling. "Her parents are out of town, and she's quite the rebel, so..."
Suna looked at me, confused. "You're inviting me?" he asked. I nodded immediately. "Mhm, if you want to, of course." Gosh, I hoped he said yes.
He thought for a moment, then hesitated. "I don't know, I'm not really a drinker..."
My eyebrows raised in surprise, and I quickly reassured him. "Oh, yeah, me too. We don't have to drink. Don't worry."
"Wanna be my plus one, perhaps?" I asked, trying to sound casual. I noticed Suna gulping before he responded.
"Well, I'm busy tomorrow," he said. I felt a pang of disappointment and tried to hide it with a fake smile. "Oh? What are you doing?"
"My little sister's visiting, and my apartment is a mess. Like, it needs to be cleaned. Terribly." he explained, and I listened, trying not to let my disappointment show.
"How old is your sister?" I asked, curious. "She's the same age as Aya." he said.
"Ah, well, it's okay if you don't want to come. I totally get it." I said, forcing a smile. "Yeah, sorry." He mumbled.
Before I could respond, the others returned, laughing and chatting as they approached. "Hey, did you guys miss us?" Atsumu called out, waving a bag of snacks.
I glanced at Suna, who was giving me a playful look of judgment. I chuckled, "Yeah, we missed you guys." I called back, shaking my head at his expression.
As everyone gathered around, Atsumu started handing out snacks. "Look at all this loot! We got chips, candy, and even some fancy bottled ice tea."
I snatched a bag of chips and grinned. "Nice haul, Miya. You guys didn't take too long, did you?"
Ginjima shook his head. "Nah, we were quick. Didn't want to leave you two lovebirds alone for too long." He winked at us, and I felt my cheeks flush.
"Lovebirds? Hardly."
