mai. Suna never responded, and I began to accept the harsh reality that he might never talk to me again. I've lost him.
Now, it's prom night, and I'm standing here in my sparkly ash blue dress. Mom and I picked it out last week. It's stunning, perfectly flattering my figure and fitting the prom vibe just right.
I had hoped to surprise Suna with it, but now, it seems he'll never see it. Staring into the mirror, my expression is blank. It's been so long since I last smiled.
"Are you okay, honey?" Mom's voice breaks the silence as she appears behind me to brush my hair. My hair is down, styled in curls adorned with pearls.
I swallowed my regret and forced a smile. "Yep. Just a bit nervous." I said. "Is Rintarou coming to pick you up?" she asked, her tone hopeful.
I wish he was. I glanced down at my dress, shaking my head. "No, he's not going to prom." I replied.
Mom frowned, "Aw, that's a shame." she said, pulling me into a comforting hug. I nodded, feeling a mix of sadness and acceptance wash over me.
"You look beautiful. The most beautiful ever." Mom complimented softly. "Thanks, Mom." I responded, my voice tinged with the weight of unspoken feelings.
Mom stepped back slightly, still holding my shoulders, her eyes searching mine. "You know, you don't need a date to have a good time. You've got your friends, and you've got that gorgeous dress." she said with a warm smile.
Friends, huh? The friends who betrayed me? The friends who didn't care about me. The thought crossed my mind, and I forced a smile for Mom's sake.
"Yeah, you're right." I said, trying to sound more confident than I felt. "Promise me you'll try to enjoy yourself tonight?" She asked. I nodded, trying to muster up some enthusiasm. "I'll try."
She sighed, giving me an encouraging pat on the back. "That's my girl. Now, let's take some pictures. You look too beautiful not to capture this moment."
We moved to the living room, where she positioned me in front of the fireplace, As my parents snapped photos, I tried to relax, but my mind kept wandering back to Suna.
"Alright, one more!" Dad said cheerfully. I struck another pose, hoping it looked more natural than I felt.
Just as she was about to take the last picture, the doorbell rang. My heart leapt, and for a fleeting moment, I hoped it might be Suna.
But as Mom opened the door, it was just the delivery guy dropping off a package. I felt my heart sink again.
"Must be those shoes I ordered," Mom said, signing for the package. "Let's finish up here. You don't want to be late."
